Does anyone know how to access the wiring for the parking lights from the shifter? I want to hardwire this Flameball without tearing my car apart. Is there anything easier to hardwire it to?

I'd just wire it to switched power. If it glows in the daytime, then so be it. You can find switched power at the heated seat switches, right nearby,

I do not have heated seats, nor do I know where they would be located. Under the shift boot I see a bundle of wires, some of which split off and lead to the mirror controls. Could I use any of the wires in the bundle? Which colors? I am far from being an electrician.

For your purpose, the easiest and closest from the shifter is the cigarette lighter illumination wire, which supplies power to light up the ring around the cigarette lighter. I don't know the color of the wire, but it can be figured out with a multimeter.

I have been looking for a reasonably priced good quality acrylic/plastic shift ****.
I checked out their site a few weeks ago, but haven't found any feed back.
Do you have the **** yet?
What is your impression of the quality?
Does it fit the MINI shifter securely?

Get a cheap multimeter and a couple sewing pins. That way, you can see which wires are which without cutting anything. Then, when you have identified ground and switched power or ground and illumination, use vampire clips (Scotch taps) to tap into those wires.

No, I don't have it yet. They say that their hardware can fit any shifter, including splined ones. I haven't asked specifically if they've sold any to MINI owners. I wanted to find out if I could actually wire it myself before buying it. I'll post pictures and give my impression of it when I do install it.

Thanks for the info. Although I'm still kind of fuzzy on the terms, I'm sure I can use it.

After inquiring, I received an e-mail from the owner and he says that he's sold Flameballs to MINI owners and has heard no complaints about mounting the **** to the MINI's spline mount. Unfortunately, he has no feedback of whether or not the Flameball adds any height to the stock shifter.

I have a shifter that I found at Autozone. It does make the shifter higher, but I don't drag race it so I'm not worried about it. It doesw make the throws real easy and is a little more comfortable. I'm tall so I am a little ways from everything. It lights up, but it is run by batteries. I'm sure the cigarette lighter would work fine for a splice point though.

I installed it Saturday. It adds a little to the height, but I don't notice it anymore. The glow of the flames at night look great with the orange of the dash.
I spliced it to the illumination wire for the cig lighter. It came with a plastic bushing that fit the shift lever and it's held firmly in place by three set screws.
Shift ****, LED and wiring, shipping: $71.50
It looks great, especially at night. I'm definitely glad I bought it.

Looks cool, Ueber! I also like the color coordinated stitching on the boot!

I don't have a digital camera, so I'll have to do it at work, which means pulling it in the garage, turning off the lights (if no one is working at the time), setting up a tripod and finding the right aperture setting so it will show up instead of just a blob of light.

I am planning on doing it as soon as possible.

I just got my flameball, how did you get to the cig lighter. What/how did you route the wire to the bottom of the lighter?

Thanks,

Kevin

Sorry, I haven't checked this site in a while.
In order to get to the cig lighter wiring, I took apart the center console, including removing the downtubes.

Yeah, it really does match the rest of the instrument panel. The pictures don't do it justice.

There isn't any warmth emanating from it, but it only has a small LED in it.

I haven't been to any of the MMMC Spring Clean-Ups yet, but I might go this time.

Which color is it?

I've looked at the www.flameball.com website. Which model and color did you choose that matches the dash lights so well? Is it the Multi-Color Flame model in "Red Flame on Black" or "Yellow Flame on Black" ?

It's the Multi-Color Amber Flame on Black.
