I figured as much! Please do let me know if those end up working out for you.

Like I said, those are the correct options - I'm just hoping you don't have an older piece of hardware in there (radio module).

I hope so too! That would really suck for me.

In any case, I want to make sure that the Office you are referring to is not the one on the top level Menu?

I was referring to the one buried in the Telephone->Bluetooth menu:

My car is missing those two above :( I took these from the loaner countryman they gave me, that a service date of August/2011.

Thanks again for all your help! I decided to buy a D-CAN cable tomorrow from ebay and just help myself. If it turns out to be hardware, then I'll be pushing for a Warranty Claim.

Θ,

Thanks for all the research last night!

A question about the datens info held in the MINI. I assume that the dealer does the datens updating during periodic service or, in my case, when a brand new vehicle is first received at the VDC/dealer (probably dealer?). Since I just took delivery of my R60 (build date 11/6/11), I assume that it has the v45 datens loaded.

1) Will NCS Expert report to me the datens version loaded on my R60?

2) If I have an earlier datens version, will the v45 file you have just uploaded still allow me to change the module settings, or should I make sure to match the versions of the datens?

Still waiting for the cable...key gong & no key removal unlock almost = water-boarding on a daily basis...

GeoffreyM, yours should be enabled already, it was disabled in my CDN model.

First one is Bluetooth Audio A2DP menu item under CD/Multimedia, the 2nd one displays the cover art from music being played on a USB stick (if the art is on there, and the MP3 tags are correct). I haven't done anything yet as I just bought my cable last night from ebay.

Koopah,

I'm almost positive that you'll have the v44 datens with that build date. Even still, the v45s will work just fine. There is a way to find the datens loaded on the vehicle with hex editing, but I wouldn't worry about it, as the v45 datens will work perfectly for you.

Geoffrey,

These are the default USA settings on our cars - he just wanted to see if he could enable them on his.

In regards to V45 datens. Be aware that if your car has V45 and you try to us anything earlier, you will end up with a car that thinks it is a Coupe with a stuck spoiler. I found out the hard way.

Bottom line----use the most up to date Datens you can find!

Heeding the warnings of stuck-spoilers, I've gone ahead and updated my VM to v45. Is there a way to check that the flashing software is at the right version (v45)?

Just make sure you follow the steps correctly and put the new v45 datens files into the ECU / SGDATA + run LADEN.BAT.

After that, you can manually compare the file versions of R56xxx.000 to the ones in the v45 datens files, and make sure the dates and sizes match. Certainly not necessary if you follow the instructions correctly, though.

If it becomes an issue, I'll upload the entire directories (though that's really large).

The way I understand it, you can't go wrong with older datens on the car and newer on your programming rig. The other way around is when you run into problems. As far as what's out there, I believe the dealers are on V45 as of December or so. Please correct any of this you know different!

That's correct!

So long as your programming tools are the same as or more recent than your car, you're 100% okay!

hello,
in my old R55 (Clubman Cooper 2008) the LCD screen in the center of the tachometer could display the speed or time and temperature.
In my new countryman Cooper S November 2011 this screen can only display the speed.
is there a coding parameter to display the time and temp as in the clubman?

thank you

I'll have to check on that one. I'm pretty sure I know what you're talking about.

2012 with NCS Expert and v45 Datens -

I've finally got all the bits and pieces together and have NCS Expert chugging right along. My first task was to get the TRC (trace) file from the CAS module. Note that the version of the CAS module for my 2012 (11/2011 build) Countryman S is 3.C06.

My goal was to activate the key fob lock button windows/sunroof closing and to unlock all doors with key removal. Changes were the following:

Module: CAS

Effect: Unlock doors when key is removed
ER_KEYOUT_AUTOVR
aktiv

Effect: Close windows and sunroof with lock on key fob
KOMFORTSCHLIESSUNG_FB
aktiv

The result was mixed: the key fob lock change worked (marvelous!) but the unlock on key removal did not. To verify the change to the unlock key setting, I generated a new TRC file from the new CAS settings and verified both changed to "aktiv". I'm wondering if the 2012 uses a different setting??

Have any other NCS Expert users tried this change with the v45 datens file and a 2012 with a 11/2011 (or later) build date?

2011 and 2012 chassis *should* use the same instruction set. I believe I had the setting working when testing a few days ago.

Let me look at my trace file to confirm it, and maybe we can figure it out.

Perhaps I need to know how this works. I "assume" that when I press in the key fob to eject it, the doors will unlock. Is that a correct assumption?

I do not have comfort access and have an automatic transmission, if that makes a difference.

2012 Settings Verification

Successfully changed the following in the CHAMP module (v2.C13) of a 2012 (11/2011 build) using v45 datens:

Module: CHAMP

Old: RADIO_WEATHERBAND (nicht aktiv)
New: RADIO_WEATHERBAND (aktiv)
Effect: Enable Weather-Band Radio

Old: LEGAL_DISCLAIMER_TIME (ld_mit_timeout) "ld" is "Ld" not "Id"
New: LEGAL_DISCLAIMER_TIME (kein_ld)
Effect: Remove the legal disclaimer from Connected/Nav

Last edited by Koopah; Jan 11, 2012 at 05:52 PM. Reason: Clarify "ld" vs. "id"

Theta/GeoffreyM --

Has anyone figured out how to code the alarm light to go into "heartbeat" mode on our R60s? I think GeoffreyM was trying to track that one down...

Issue Resolved !!!!!!

This has been haunting be a bit so I read all the way through the Gen2 NCSExpert DIY posts:

and uncovered Post #34 by jman311. It appears that jman311 was facing the same issue I was and, subsequently, deposited these pearls of wisdom that solved my delimma as well:
EDIT: Turns out the auto-unlocking feature does work, but only if the auto-lock feature is turned on in the car settings menu. Apparently if this menu item is not enabled and the doors are locked manually, they don't unlock with ignition kill/keyfob removal.
So, just remember to set the auto-lock feature in the car settings (doors lock once underway) after changing ER_KEYOUT_AUTOVR to "aktiv". Remember to enable the auto-lock feature for each key fob.

My understanding is that the 2011 and later tachs no longer have the LED in the top that would be the Heartbeat. Whether this is accurate or not, I don't know yet as I haven't taken apart my tach yet. If it doesn't, I am sure it would not be much of a problem to install one. This might be my project for this weekend. Not today though.........GO SAINTS!!!!

I'd love to work with Geoffrey on this. I've been working on it off and on for over two months, and it's a lot more complicated than it originally sounded. At first, it seemed like only a variable and some LEDs (I wish that was all).

First, the surface mount LEDs are still there in the 2011 tach. The PCB is roughly the same as the R56, although a few traces are different.

The problem comes in here: the passenger kick panel in 2011+ R56/R55/R60s does not have the wiring in non-alarmed cars to bridge the circuit. Basically, it's not there, and can't be tapped to bring power back to those LEDs. But, you can't just pull standby power to them on the things won't pulse, and will always stay on. Again, not good.

So basically, I've been working on the BCM trying to find the pulse module for the alarm system. I have all of the wiring schematics, of course, but it's kind of delicate due to what it's tied into.

I'd really like to get this done, though, as it was on my original list from way back when. Let me know if you get anywhere, of if you want to push on together.
