I'm not a fan of how the Alta directions instruct to connect the OCC, but if you only connect it to the PCV the silicone will collapse under pressure so you need a rigid insert inside. I got the Alta since it matches all my other silicone stuff

Location will be an influencing factor - Because the Alta is smaller you have more location options. I opted for the M7 but have buddies running the Alta.

which ever you can get a deal on

Go for both !

Best install option is the metal can for the pvc side and the silicone one for the low vacuum side.

Not necessary, but it does give you the most protection. I have the Alta hooked up as per their instructions and an Ebay aluminum one hooked up to the pcv line. I get about half a can of gunk every 4-6 months from the ebay can and just some watery liquid in the Alta in about the same time.

You could install two or you could configure 1 OCC to collect from both engine sources. Here is my experience - facing the engine

1) The left source seems to produce more oil that a OCC can trap.
2) The right side seems to produce less oil but more water that an OCC can trap.

I tried the "dual source" routing into 1 can which various OCC vendors provide directions for install (M7 & Alta are two that I know of). It works but I found the single sided set-up (left side) with routing back via the vaccum tube to me more effective in collecting oil. This set-up leaves the right source as is. With this set-up I find

1) no oil in my IC or the boots
2) I collect about a tablespoon a month inside the OCC.

I would start with 1 can, read DarkMiniS sticky on OCC install and see what your results are. You can always add another can if you so chose.
