Is there some trick to pulling the plug wires off so I can change the spark plugs? I've been pulling for 15 minutes, and they won't budge. There isn't some special tool needed, is there? This is ridiculous.

Nope...

no special tool. The rubber part should pop up a bit, then it's just the plug tip and the boot that it's haning on.
Pull harder?

A touch of dielectric grease inside the boot upon reinstalltion will help the next time. Make sure to do not accidently get a grip on the wire! That'l really make you unhappy! I have to fess up that I used pliers on the boot for grip the 1st time....

Give them a twist as you pull and use the dielectric grease.

Sounds like the boots have cooked themselves onto the plugs. You could use a pair of pliers and a block of wood for a fulcrum, but you will probaly need to replace the wires after geting them off.

Having the same issue. I can pull 150lbs dumbells at the gym -- so those plug wires sure must be baked on the plugs!

I only use 10's .

Anyway, I don't see any reason that the plug boots would melt to the plugs. I've never heard of that before.

The boots can get hot enough to create a bit of a vacuum and the heat can cause the rubber to "glue" itself to the plug.

Number 1 and Number 4 plug wires tore apart. I don't think it was the rubber boot. The previous owner had installed aftermarket wires. The metal connectors on the inside gripped the plug too much. Even took some effort with needle noose pliers to get them off.

So I fixed the spark plugs and tore up the good plug wires.. :(
