For those of you who have the MFlo and have the annoying rattle that is associated with some of the kits I have a very simple fix. The rattle comes from the hangers right after the resonator the hanger rubs on the driver side of the trans tunnel. To fix this jack up the car and take out the center support and then pull the exhaust off to one side and place a rubber vaccum cap on the driver side hanger. I have had this fix on my car now for about a month with no reoccurance of the rattle.

Also for those of you who want to mod the intercooler I just converted my nitrous intercooler chiller over to CO2. However since CO2 has a higher bottle pressure around 1800 psi. I keep breaking the flare that goes to the chiller plate. But in time I will get this figured out. This system works awesome with nitrous chilling the intercooler I think I belive nitrous expresses claim of 50 horsepower. But who knows. I am working right now on putting a digital exhaust temp guage in the intake runner some where so I can see how much this is really cooling down the air. Will keep everyone who cares advised.

Magnaflow rattle

My center hanger was hitting on the passengers side. Cutting off 1/2" solved that.

I put a double layer of B-quiet under the back seat, boot, and inside the hatch and it STILL drones terribly cruising at 80. I now have a Cooper rear valance (outlet on the right), I plan on adding a matching exaust cutout on the driver's side. Then I am having the pipes redone aft of the mufflers. It will retain the connecting pipe between the two outlets, but it will have wide set outlets.

I have not decided yet if I will reuse the Magnaflow trumpets, or go to oval resonator tips.

I love the power, but I just can't live with the low frequency drone.

If you have any thoughts on my planned Magnaflow mods, I would love to hear them!

I had a Magnaflow on my car for a week and it did the same thing. It also fixed itself after a few days. When I took it off I found it had made a nice small hole in the heat shield - just big enough to keep it quite!

That happened to me too, I just took it back to the shop and they trimmed one of the hangers. No more rattles

Hi all.

Gee! It's my first post ever. . .

I just put the Magnaflow system on my S on Wednesday, checked for clearances everywhere (except for the center hanger) , and made sure that all was good and tight . After 3 days of use, it's almost like I have two rattles. The hanger problem sounds like an obvious one. When the car is idling, it sounds like it's probably making the rattle right underneath the shifer. I'll be jacking 'Blue up again tomorrow and checking if the bar from the center hanger is contacting anywhere. I thank all who mentioned it for that tip.

The second rattle happens when I'm stuck driving 15-25mph through my speed trap plagued neighborhood. It almost sound like the trunk/hatch is giving off a low hum that changes pitch based slightly at low speed. Ann, is that the drone you were talking about?

I've been waiting months to put this system on my car. The performance increase from just an exhaust change is amazing, but so is the rattle!! Maybe it's just a side-effect of a rattling hanger? I won't know until I lift 'Blue up tomorrow. But, this is too cool a car to have it sound like our pizza boy's poorly modded Civic.

I don't know if anyone else has experienced the same phenomenon, or has some more tips, lemme' know.

Thanks!

I too had to cut of a chuck of a hanger to stop the rattle. However my biggest problem is one I don't know how to fix....my Magnaflow MELTED my rear valance!!!

It looks like my mflo has a bit of a twist to the passenger side and that's what caused the melting. It was only a minor spot of melting, I then had the exhaust repositioned to remove the rattle and prevent continued melting. Well at an advanced drivers course the other day I noticed that the exhaust had melted clear through the valance where the exhaust pokes out. I'm not buying a new rear valance until I can be SURE that I stopped the melting. I'm going to pull the tips out as far as they'll go in the hopes that will prevent the melting. We'll see.

My 'flow also is not quite centered - it is offset a little to the passenger side. It doesn't quite touch the rear bumper, but it is very close. It needs to be shifted about 1/4-1/2 inch to the left.

Do you think if I remove it and pull the two rear hangers slightly toward the driver's side, it would straighten it out?

Not sure if that will work or not...If you get it to work please post. This is what my rear valance looks like:

I had the same problem with melting towards the passangers side, (just a small amount). After looking at the hanger sites I noted that the one on the drivers side was bent, likely when it was installed, such that the two were not symetric when comparing one side to the other. So I used a hose clamp and tightened the hanger and the post that holds the rubber mount so that they are more vertical with one another and even with the other side. The problem has disappeared. Good luck.

I did note a rattle the other evening....will have to investigate that as it has not returned. Wish me luck.

Even with these issues I think the "Flow is the way to Go"

If the rattle persists, try tapping the front resonator with a rubber mallet. A bad weld was found in mine. It caused a horrible rattle that only got worse. Now, I have zero rattles
