Drivetrain Too much boost?
Too much boost?
Hello everyone,
I live in Canada, and I have a 15+2 and I hit 19 psi at high speeds... is this safe with out a chip and injectors? Im assuming iam making more boost because of the colder denser air but 19psi is reachin the limits of the stock internals, on top of that i was thinking of doing a 17+2 combo but i have a feeling im going to be hitting around 21psi without injectors or chip
.. will some one guide me in the right direction, right now i just want to make more power with out doing the twincharge(thats for next year..
)
thanks,
Jm

That seems pretty good for the setup you have. I have the 19% pulley with GIAC and injectores etc... and I max out at 20psi, and I think that is because it was really cold here this past week. I don't know about doing any harm to your engine without a remap or injectors, maybe someone else will chime in.
Wow that is a very high psi for just a 15-2, the max I'm gettitg on my car is 14.5 and that's with all the upgrades I have had. 18-19 psi is where I want to be eventualy.
How are you gauging the 19 psi? Do you have a boost gauge?

I don't know how to do the math to calculate but you need to get that number and then if you do not produce that number, chances are its the guage.
I do recall that a 15% pulley should produce 14.5lbs. I added a 1-15 VDO guage and hit that number dead on. Previously I had tried a different (very popular brand) guage and did not come close
.
guage quality is everything and guage scale is also a factor.

well yeah im documenting the readings off my boost gauge, i first had the factory gauge kit that mounts right to the tach it comes with stewart warner gauges (very good as im told) and i replaced it because i kept on maxxing it out, it only went to 17psi! so i bought an autometer ultralite 0-30psi gauge and it reads 19psi when im flying.. were talking above 100mph.. im pretty sure both gauges are good because when the cars off the needle sits right at 0 ... i have always wondered why my car reads more then what the usual reported
lol .. when i had just the 15% pulley and stock 05 crank pulley i would hit 17psi above 100.. i dont really know what to say lol.. just trying to figure out if im going to see a big gain in performance from lets say 17+2 setup with injectors and a chip, as it stands right now i only have the 15+2 nothing else..

the injectors might not add much power but it will safe guard your motor from lean conditions. the chip will def add some power and smoothness and an overall better feeling and driving car.
the 17 will boost it a bit more but added with the injectors and chips it will be enough to REALLY notice the difference.
