Just disconnect the negative battery terminal, wait a few minutes, and hook it up. You'll need to reset your clock afterwards.
Finally got the header on? Cool!

so will resetting the ecu make certain adjustments based on what new things it feels/finds? Such as the header in this case, are you saying it 'adjusts' to the new modifications?

^^ From what I've read, yes. The ECU is adaptive and will re-learn over time; this just speeds up the process. I'm certainly open to correction if this is incorrect. I don't know how this would affect software upgrades (JCW, MTH, GIAC), so i'd wait for some of the more knowledgable to chime in before attempting it.

Did you decide on an upgrade yet? Curious to see how your mods all tie together. You certainly have done your homework!

i'm curious if this indeed works, on another thread(under the bonnet) it mentions going through the Speedo settings to re-set the ecu...the battery option does seem easier

typically, it's disconnect the neg. step on the brake a few secs to drain the system well, wait 5 minutes and connect the neg back.

I'm also curious what happens to the existing TUNE when this is done, example being, if i have a JCW re-flash on my ecu, then i change my battery let's say, would this bring me back to the stock ECU tune, erasing the JCW re-flash?

the tune stays the same, the only thing that gets cleared out is the adaptive functions. This has more to do with part throttle acceleration. WOT doesnt get changed. This is also reffered to as the cluster reset.

You can reset the ecu, it will help adapt to the changes you made, but the overall tune will not change.

In order to take advantage of this change you need to go with aftermarket ECU tuning.

Disconnected the battery yesterday to reset the ECU after some mod. Not sure of any improvement other than slightly better trottle response and gas mileage.

Reset Ecu disconnect neg terminal for 3 min. If you don't want lose clock etc setting, can buy @ part's store a connector that plug's into your cigarrette lighter, other end plugs into 9 volt battery. Are you resetting as you have new free flow cat? If you just put header, CAI ECU will relearn itself. As you mod more expect more Cel flashes usually 4026 ( mix lean or rich). Easy to rectify with 0-2 elect simulator.

New injectors, pulley, plugs, intake and exhaust.
I disconnected them for a cup of coffee.
I lost clock and computer data (average mileage, speed, etc.) but not the radio setting.

The reset with the speedo is a lot easier:

Hold in your odometer reset button and at the same time turn your key so that the radio comes on

Release the odometer button and then press it repeatedly until it shows the #19

Stop at 19 and the display will go back and forth between "test" and "off"
Push the button when it is on off and the press it repeatedly until you get to #21

It will display an option to reset. Press the button and your displays will go blank and your guages will flutter and then the displays will come back on

Turn off the key and then your done.

Takes less than 60 seconds and you don't need to to unhook the battery or reset your clock
