Educated guess...

at how much whp/trq. would i be looking at with the following:

2006 Mini S

- Alta 2.5" cat back exhaust
- OBX header withOUT cat (i'm in FL. no emmission testing)
- Alta 15% pulley
- Alta 2% crank pulley
- Alta big intercooler with air diverter
- Alta air intake
- retuned ECU (which is best for this setup?)

couple other questions: how much does the 2006 Mini S weigh and what 1/4 mile times are typical for the setup mentioned above with a good driver/sea level conditions.

~175 WHP and a BIG slap on the butt from Mother Nature for not using a cat.

Whether or not your state has emissions testing, please do the rest of the oxygen breathing population a favor and use a catalytic converter. Federal laws regarding such were written for a reason.

Florida is going to be reintroducing emissions in all counties by 2010....

That setup, between 175 and 190.

i'll be doing a dyno run next month and ill post my #'s here if you would like, I have some sililar stuff + and - thongs but I'm thinking similar #'s.

edit: I'm switching to a 19% pulley, and will be running without a reflash for the dyno run.

what's the weight on a mini S?

so basically $3-$4000 to make 10-15 more whp than stock?
i think i'll leave it all stock then, LOL.

car's for my wife...the gains seem to be very little for the cost.

last time someone wanted to introduce emmissions in FL he got voted out quick...read it somewhere, supposedly FL has virtually no pollution, what would be the basis of introducing emmissions for a clean state?

After recently having done some dyno pulls on my wife's bone-stock 'S', I think the *wheel* horsepower on a stock 'S' is closer to 158 or so. So if you can get into the 175-190 WHP range, that's 17-32 more horsepower.

You would probably get the bulk of the gains from the intake, SC pulley and exhaust, so that might be the "sweet spot" on a dollars-per-horsepower basis.

The mods you listed are fairly conservative, so I don't know how much of the gains would come from the bigger intercooler and the ECU update, and neither one of those are particularly cheap. The 2% crank pulley is lighter than stock, but the weight difference is less on the later cars, so you could save some money and not sacrifice much boost by going with a 17% SC pulley instead.

My educated guess is...
The stock MCS is more than capable without worrying about how much whp/torque you have if:
You don't add that much more weight- heavy audio upgrades.
Go for light wheels and sticky tires
Stick to just a very basics in upgrades- a cold air intake, cat back exhaust, 15% pulley and matching ECU upgrade (GIAC is fine and reasonably priced). Forget the rest.

I base this on this month's autocross results in my region. Out of 110 drivers a Stock MCS with SSR comp R 16" rims and Hoosier A6 tires finished 1st in PAX overall and 12th fastest on raw time. The only stock car that did better was a Honda S2000 3rd fastest raw time and 3rd overall PAX. (PAX includes handicap for each class).

The last auto cross I was at my pax time was 5 seconds faster then anyone else, so I dont think its weighted very well right now. SCCA has some interesting rules. (this was before any upgrades, besides light wheels and tires) I was running GS class

luckly my area might only have 30-45 cars per event.

I think you're right. With the new PAX factors SCCA just published, the difference between GS and STX is only .005. For MINI drivers currently in GS that aren't running R-compound tires, that almost makes the switch to STX a no-brainer. On a 60-second course, you only have to go 0.3 seconds faster to overcome the higher PAX factor, and you get to add an intake and all the neat suspension bits like a rear swaybar, camber plates, adjustable lower rear control arms, and a wide variety of shocks/springs/coilovers. Plus, you can run lightweight 15" wheels. I'm going to stay in GS to finish out the current series, then I'm planning on switching over.
