Drivetrain Is there something wrong?
Is there something wrong?
Ok heres the backround story to my question... Me and my buddy go to a local drag strip he has a 1996 Integra GSR (170 hp plus intake and performance muffler) and I have a MCS with 15+2 intake full exhaust plus all the ignition upgrades that you can get and earlier in the summer I would beat him by like 3-5 cars all day (I had lighter wheels on but nothing like centerlines or anything probably like 5-10 pounds lighter then stock wheels). Yesterday we went to the track again because I wanted to see how my car was running (Im in canada so its cold right now and I wanted to see the diff the colder air would give me) and some how he managed to beat me ONCE and every other time we ran it I would only beat him by a fender - half a car... hmmm I dont know im worried I have done something bad to my car?!!?:impatient right now i have a glazed gatorback on so that could be the problem i guess plus the wheel difference because now i have stock wheels back on, but i didnt think all of the above would make that much of a difference... I hope i didnt break anything... anyways just wanted to see if you guys had any advice/ideas of what it could be?
Thanks,
Jm

Is this a timed track? If so, then compare the time slips...You should only be racing against your times and not compared against another car as their are to many varibles to consider...ie driver got much better in his reaction time...or his car is just running better in the cooler weather.
If your times have dropped off, then there could be something with the MINI that is affecting your performance. If he has time slips, compare them as well.
You are correct, that you should be producing more consistant power with the cooler temps, but then again, your tires will also be cooler and may not hook up as well as when they did when it was warm.

Many things could be happening here:
1. Colder - more power less traction
2. Tire glazed - less traction - hurt by more power and colder track
3. He did something he hasnt mentioned. It also helps him that he is making less power down low (where traction is an issue) and more up top (vtec)
4. You have something wrong with your mini.

For stock GSR, with some bolt-on parts, street tires and in good shape, can run mid to low 15's on a good day. Your car should beat him easily on the strip, if both drivers are equally good. May be, it wasn't your day.
Unfortunately I dont have any time slips, My friend knows the guy who owns it and he just lets us run on it sometimes after hours so we didnt want to push him to turn everything on, we only really wanted to have some fun runs... The funny thing is with my stock rims I have pirelli snow tires and in the summer I had BFgoodrench KD's second best summer tire made by them and the pirellis hook up wayyyyyyy better... in the summer my car would burn right threw first bang second and burn second
, now it barely squaks second :impatient .... I wondering maybe my spark plugs arent fireing properly or something?? For some reason I think the ECU is pulling some timing, the car just feels overall groggy... I was having the time of my life with the 2% crank, man it makes a nice improvement in acceleration! and now its just disappointing... I think im going to order up the JCW belt, I wanted to get the sparkplugs as well but they sell for $80 canadian a plug!!! outrageous!
thanks for the replies,

oh and by the way, my other friend had a 2000 SiR turbocharged and when my car felt like it was in its prime we went down the track together and he only had me by about 2-2.5 cars... he told me that he had ran a 13.7 the last time he timed his 1/4 mile... so i really am confused... lol
