Borla STREET vs. Borla SPORT

I haven't been able to find a solid answer on this. What's the difference between the Borla STREET and the Borla SPORT? I know the sport's more expensive. I know the Sport has resonators. But as far as sound, performance gains, and overall basic differences behind them....I just can't find all the answers.

I'm looking for a great sounding exhaust on a Mini COoper S that will be doing very little (but occasional) auto crossing, crazy (controlled) driving, etc. Does this become a no-brainer???

You'll need to listen to both is person. Neither will poduce more than 7 or 8 hp at the most. Sound clips don't do any exhaust justice. Find people in your area with them and have fun!

Borla

I have the BORLA race exhaust on my 2006 MCS and with the CAI you
get the best combination of sounds over the stock set up. From what
I hear the BORLA street exhaust is pretty close to the stock system. Why
spend good money for that!!

Borla

Ditto on what Minirab said, I've got an 03's w/Cai,15% and Borla race, sounds great, not overly loud or distracting on interstate driving and runs great too!Better buy than street that sounds stock,my buddy has one on his 04' and regrets not getting the ''race''.

Check out this exhaust thread. It has a bunch of video and audio clips of different exhausts in the begging of the thread. The Borla Race clip does not work on the 1st page, but if you go to page 12 I posted an audio clip.

I love my Borla Race

if i recall correctly, average gains w/street are 3-5hp. w/race is about 7-9hp. The race version is constructed with much straighter-flowing mufflers, making it louder than the street.

I have listened to some of the sound clips, but it's just really difficult to decide based on a sound clip. I agree that I need to listen to some live. Hmmm, not sure if anyone here has a Borla setup though. I just don't want anything overly loud or distracting...or RICER!

The Race is not loud at all unless you step on it..
On the highway, theres seems to be a little droning but can be controlled by changing ur thorttle position.... The best thing about the race version? The sound that comes after 4000+ rpm... it just changes.... VERY nice..

ive got the borla race

and love it. 90% of the time.. But if i was doing it again, id go Milltek.

The little drone i get isn't bad for those of you who drive 10-15K a year.

I drive 45-60K a year.. Drone is a bit much. But others havent had same issues in other cars, so its a crap shoot

I have not had a Borla, but I surely do love my Milltek. I have had it for about two months, now, and I still often turn off the sound system and roll down the windows 'cause the music is soooo sweet accelerating from about 3500-5000+rpm. It's quiet under 3000 and IMO, not too obnoxious at 3000-4000 steady speeds, either.

Race vs Sport

If you go to Borla.com and search Mini you''ll see two cat back systems offered. You will notice the race has 2 round mufflers vs 2 rectangular mufflers for the sport.Like most that have chimed in,the race version is a little louder and i believe a little lighter and picks up a few more ponies, but not offensive. But in the end, you''ll have to decide which is right for you.By the way, there is a dealer locator on their page to help you find a dealer in your area.
Good Luck, Bill

i have the race with an alta header. and it's way too loud by anyone's standards!! it vibrates the interior of the car. so if you get the race i hope you never plan on getting a header!!

I'll never get a header, but I want something better sounding than stock. In fact the only other mods I"ll probably do would be an intake and a pulley. I agree with the statement that if the street is as loud as the stock system, why go with it? Which is why I"d lean toward race. BUT, I don't want to really turn heads with my exhaust either.

From what I gather reading these posts, it sounds great up to about 3500 RPM....after that, once one steps on it, it gets louder but isn't "too offensive." Which sounds like what I'm looking for.

THanks guys!

Borla street is slightly louder than stock at idle, less at speed

Borla race ... see here http://www.mini2.com/forum/843543-post33.html

If the Borla Race is to loud for you, at it has for some people, then you can buy some venturis here http://new.minimania.com/web/Item/NME1024/InvDetail.cfm
