Installed Detroit ByPass Valve. No more YO-YO!

Ever since I bought my car 3 months ago I have always had a first gear lunge. The car would move forward and then bog down for a spilt second. I have driven other Mini's and they don't have this problem. I thought after I had software, pulley and Head/cam it would go away, but no. Yesteday I installed the Detroit BPV and voila the problem went away and now the car takes off smooth. Also the boost comes on faster and sharper, and I get 1psi more on the top end. The installs was fairly simple and took about 1.5 hours. You have to remove the CAi, aftercooler, TB and some clamps. Chad at Detroit said my MPG would drop and tiny bit but I have seen no drop. This is a great mod for many 02-04 Mini's, maybe even for 05-06 models. I should have done it sooner.

Did it resolve the whistle on your Alta CAI as well or did you not have that issue?

I have both the DT BPV and the Alta CAI and haven't ever had a whistle going on that I can hear.
The BPV definately smooths out things but I've been concerned about those that have said that it increases air temps in the intake charge.
Worth it though so far I'd say.

It completely eliminated the whistle from my Alta CAI.

I never had it, or maybe I'm not sure what you mean.

Both MSFITOY and I have measured higher IATs with the VGS than without (I just measured it today--data just in!) I've never heard any one link the DT BPV to higher intake temperatures. There may be, but if so it's smaller than the impact of the VGS.

cheers,

I have said that the DTBPV increases intake air temps, posting on the IC efficiency thread.

On my car, using a 19% and GRS, it increased them 10-12 degF at highway cruise speeds. Measured using a Scanguage II connected to the OBDII port.
