Im thinking of putting a borla exhaust on my 06 MCS but I want to know if anybody has any opinions about reliability, sound, look, etc.
If you have any other exhausts you think i should look at, post a link and you might sway me , especailly if these websites have a sound clip, so i can get an idea

I'm really liking my Larini exhaust that Victor from MINI Works installed about 3 weeks ago. I had intended on buying the Club Sport exhaust, but he only had the resonator piece in stock, so that's what I've been running. It's got a very nice, subtle sound to it. I had almost zero burble with the stock exhaust but now it's quite pleasant. Tommorrow I should be getting the resonator replaced with the straight through pipe and will let you know what I think. The video displays the Club Sport system, no resonator.

When considering an exhaust first start here-

Then figure out a budget for upgrades in general and specifically for the exhaust itself.

If you can, get to a local MINI event in your area where it is likely that others will have MINIs that have been upgraded. You'll get to hear some of the exhausts and you can decide how you like the loudness both in and out of the MINI and as you drive along (go for a ride).

Some things to consider-
1. Who is going to install the exhaust? A shop, yourself, friends? Some are easy to install while others can take more time.
2. Is the exhaust available for the 2006 MCS, the hangers are different on the early vs later model year MCS.
3. How much is the shipping? Ship by ground and it will save you a bundle.
4. What is the warranty on the exhaust? Some are lifetime warranties and some are stainless steel but that doesn't always mean that they cannot have problems. Sometimes the resonators will overheat and burn out.
5. How loud is good for you? Only you will know that. Magnaflow is one of the loudest. If you add a header it might be even louder but it depends on which header.
6. Do you need a header? Most owners do not but some owners add it and some will add a high flow catalytic converter if the header doesn't come with a cat.
7. What are you going to use the MINI for? If for street use only then a simple cat-back exhaust will do fine. If you do longer drives at highway speed especially about 60 mph then choose an exhaust that doesn't drone (make a louder than usual resonant hum-like noise at constant 3000 rpm).
8. Do you like the appearance of the exhaust especially the tips? Some are simple, some single some double. This is cosmetic for the most part.
9. Have you checked out the One Ball stock exhaust mod? It's cheap and you remove some weight but it is not much for added power or noise.
10. Have you checked out single vs double sided exhausts? Single are lighter in weight but may not be a good a choice for high power modded MINIs. They are fine for street use. Some have a fairly deep exhaust note.
11. Do you want to be different? There are many exhausts to choose from. Borla is good but also very common.

On Borla-
They come in two models, one is the "street" version which is most common and fairly quiet. It adds some power and doesn't drone. For about the same price there is also the "race" version which is a little louder and tuned more for performance. In the race version the mufflers are a bit smaller. Both are good exhausts for the MINI and have many parts to join up (don't miss any leaks). A shop can do the install for roughly $80 using a lift. If you do it yourself it will take you a bit longer using jackstands and lying on your back.

I'd say try to look at a few exhausts up close at a MINI event.
