m7 Exhaust Installed

Holy CRAP! I just got finished with the install an hour or so ago and have been terrorizing the neighborhood!

No really, This was a super easy install except for the fact that I don't own a lift and had to do it with Jack stands (A short two post BendPack Assymetrical Lift is being ordered on Monday so I never have to go through this again!) I hate laying on my back working under a car!

Anywhoooo. I fired her up and WOW! the sound was fantastic. I heard Don's car at the dragon and was impressed but am even more so now that I have gotten to experience both sides of the equation.

She is really deep and throaty (this is not a quite exhaust) and is just awesome to listen to (until my wife starts stomping on the floor since she is trying to sleep).

I was even more impressed when I got onto the road. As one would expect the tones are deep and pronounced while accelerating but as soon as you hit above 3000 RPM things start to mellow out. This was the thing I was most worried about with an aftermarket exhaust was the drone.

Now of course I have not had a chance to get her up to normal cruising speeds (I was running around 55-60) like one might on a longer freeway trip but it really smoothed out and sounded fantastic! Of course as soon as you drop the hammer that awesome sound was back!

It was so cool to see the looks on peoples faces as I got beside them and then juiced the gas!

Throttle response is smoother overall. I have no access to a dyno so please don't ask about that.

I did not bring the video camera home from the office so I have not made a sound clip recording. I will do so tomorrow and upload it for all of you.

My impression of the ease of install is (ok, I borrowed some of my wife's thumbs, the neighbor's, my dog's......you get the picture)

My impression of the performance so far is as well! I can't wait to get her out on the freeway and see what I can do!

oh and the black powder coated tips popping out of the back of my D/S ride is just unreal!!!

cheers!

chris

Please update after 1000/1500 miles or so when the exhaust is really broken in - I'd like to know if it changes or drones after that.

Congrats though, glad you are happy with your purchase

It's not on their website yet, but you can order it (I'm pretty sure). Give M7 a call.

Yes boys and girls the exhaust is ready for prime time (available).
The problem is that my web guy is on vacation and I'm not capable
or smart enough to post it on our site....

Can we hear it? I know there was a clip posted, but I think heard more AGS than exhaust.

$730 + shipping, with your choice of either polished or black tips.

I apologize to all who I promissed sound clips but the one video camera I have access to is shot and does not work so I have no way of making the sound clips.

hopefully someone else will be able to.

The video/sound clip is good (stationary and idle/reved)
Reminds me of the UUC.
Overall a great choice and reasonably price.
Tips look excellent and fitment looks spot on.

Now take it on the road and get more video clips of you zipping by the camera.

Don't forget to add this to the exhaust thread sticky.

Is M7 planning an exhaust for the MC too?
Are models available that will fit hardtop and cabrio, older MINIs and new ones too?

What is the weight? About 34 pounds maybe?
Check if it drones on the freeway at about 3000 rpm in 6th gear.

For those that might add a header I'd suggest upgrading only to this exhaust and leave the header stock- it might get louder if you upgrade the header. The sound is already pretty good.

The M7 exhaust is sourced from PowerTone. The gallery on the PowerTone website has photos of a non-S Cooper version of the exhaust.

As far as the droning question.. If you get the exhaust w/out the 2nd resonator and have a header, yes it drones and is quite loud. That is the setup I have on my car.... I am going to order the resonator, but just haven't gotten around to it. But, it fits perfect and looks sharp! The tips I have look a bit different though.. The mesh you see on the inside looks like it is lining the inside of the pipes, not partly covering the end in that video. I have been very happy with it so far!

OK . . . Does anyone know if a second resonator will have a negative effect on HP and Torque.

Just spoke to Peter today and he said the resonator does NOT effect anything but the sound. I will be picking up and getting mine installed on Thursday, can't wait.
