As of now, yes there will be a hole in the hood. Much work ahead, as I just got the DFIC yesterday and installed it. I need to do studies on the hood and understructure before cutting and modelling begins.

I think that is a pretty safe assumption .

Cutting the hood is not that bad , for the faint hearted like myself just pay someone else to do it and don't watch .

Here's how to do it.

Wait until there is a wind storm.
Have a small limb "fall" from a tree and hit the hood exactly where the vent needs to be.
File a claim, get a new hood and then cut up the old one.
If you like it sell the new hood. If not put the new one on.

Can any one point me in the direction of required probes /gauges you have to have for readings from the DFIC ports .
I have the DFIC installed with the M7 extreme scoop fitted with the standard diverter plate . I am in the process of having a new diverter plate fabricated to accomadate the differant line up on the RH side of the intercooler in regards to the extreme scoops design. Thanks

The easy way

to mount up probes is to get some 1/8" swagelok fittings in the right pipe thread (I think it's 1/8", but I"m not sure...) Then any 1/8" probe will work. Use plastic ferrules with metal nuts, but don't overtighten, otherwise the only way to get them off the probe will be to cut them off! While it's more parts, it really opens your way to using lower cost off the shelf probes.

To confirm, the good Dr. is correct it is 1/8 " fittings .

Let's try this.
We magically suspend 2 500º ICs in the middle of a room with no air moving. One large, one small.
Which will reach room temp the soonest?
How about with a 5 mph breeze?
Which one will store more heat energy?
Which one will have more energy to lose?

On my way to pick up my car from getting an alignment.

See ya in a couple hours
i vote the larger one cools quicker due to surface area exposed to the cooler room temp. air.

Someone more clever than me needs to do the design. Ramp angle, width and a way to accomodate engine movement will need to be considered.

The other part p&s answered very well.
why not just redesign the horns in and out so the i/c could be raised up out of the hood (shaker style) then the air could run right thru .

This is the best idea I have seen. If the horns pushed the IC up, you could design a hoop scoop/pass through vent that could look very cool.

Thanks Dr.O , well that was a start . I think really though I am a little out of my depth with trying to select Hardware for this Monitoring project .

Sooo...where are you guys getting the probes to fit the bungs? Then what do you hook it up to to take a reading?

Well, since we're bench designing

It'd be nice to have the IC scoop(for lack of a better term) down low. Like down in the upper section of the current grill and then have the air flow up through the IC and out over the hood.

Ducted properly it would reduce high pressure buildup under the hood at speed(track speeds that is) and would keep the hot air from dumping into the engine compartment for starters.

wasn't it a hemmi cuda that used a shaker? or trans am ? those were nice they were water proof too . just redesign the scoop to let air out the back . it would pass straight thru .

I think it was the Cuda. What a great car. I really think this is a great idea.

I also like Obehave's idea. (It'd be nice to have the IC scoop(for lack of a better term) down low. Like down in the upper section of the current grill and then have the air flow up through the IC and out over the hood)

obes' idea is more feasable . is there room for a snorkle under the hood down low ? then mount a cowl type scoop up towards the back as an outlet . we're talking cooper hood now not s . wait there is no room unless some cutting . that was stupid cutting hasn't stopped anyone here yet.

how's this ...is the air now comin' from the back of the dfic going smack into the fire wall or is it diverting to the header ? i would like to see it diverted to the header to reduce some under hood temps and possibly force heat out thru the bottom of the car .

Damnit, that was my idea!

I'm working on a vacuum formed piece to divert air down the header tunnel.

The air is clearly departing via the header. A diverter might help it along but a better solution is to vent via the hood for not only could you push the DFIC out bit it would also work when stopped/ parked - allowing engine heat to escape.
