SpiderX has the right idea. I wanted this car because it is supercharged. Like an old 911, these cars are going to appeal to people that are interested. I believe that the SC Mini will be a very desireable car in a short time. If you realy want fast, get an STI or an Evo like everybody else. Then you will be everybody else. Honda & VW are big on the aftermarket tuner list, how about 1 of those? If I wanted to go fast cheap that's what I'de do.
Don't get me wrong, most of those other cars, massaged, are quicker than this car but there is more to a SC Mini than quick.
The new TC Mini will have a whole bunch of after market tech that possibly BMW sees as a way of marketing, it certanly can't hurt. As far as I'm concerned the TC is a step backwards in automotive philosophy. Yes, you will be able to make more HP, the car will be faster, but at what cost. There is a point at which there is no fun in it. It becomes something else. And that's not what the SC Mini is all about. As SpiderX says, it will be the car everyone will remember.

Gandini, you realy feel no difference? I'm suprised. There has to be more. The design, its perfectly matched for this car. From reading some of the other posts I would have thought it would have made a notable difference & given the mods on your car........
Off the subject.
FYI: I sold my Alta thinking that I would spring for a DFIC in the spring. Instead I sold a set of early 930 wheels that I tried to sell for years ( mint condition, never had a tire on them ) & impulse bought a Forge. I noticed a whopping big difference. No scoop, just a rubber fence around the back & 1 side, real simple. For now it's a keeper. I actualy had it sold & that would leave me close to the DFIC.

Hey, we "found" more oil in the Gulf today! Apparently enough to satisfy our needs entirely for about 2 years. Ok, back on-topic...

Still lovin' the DFIC difference! I recently got around 16.5 lbs of boost, which is more than I ever got with the GRS. As I shared earlier, what I really noticed on the logging that I did was the peak temps happening early in a WOT run, not at the end of it; making for lower peak IATs. I felt the difference, but it was nice to "see" it as well.

I just spoke with Peter, and he has more DFICs in production, and some shipped today. He also said that he will have a sprayer coming-out fairly soon!

sorry for the OT but it won't happen like a switch... there will be plenty of gasoline cars available but the change is inevitable and the internet really came alive in 01 that was only 5 years ago..... think about life without it (I know how long it has been in existence but the power use started in 01) Do you really think you will buy a gas car in 2016.....? anything that resembles tha gas milage of today.....

what was the topic anyway

Oh yeah.... I like my DFIC......it makes a difference.

I'm no Doctor but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn...and I regularly read less than 10F between ambient/IAT during cruise...that's way better than any other IC I've ever used

From what I remember that's about as good as it gets for anything remotely "normal" in an IC.

The temps here got down into the 70s today, and my car (with DFIC and m7 head and the other typical mods) is way stronger than it's been.

Come on fall!!!

I should make a correction, for clarification: I don't *know* if the DFIC made a difference, if it was big, or little... I don't measure these things in the way that Dr. O does, or obehave, or others with instruments and technique and time. Consequently, I don't have any objective measures of changes to my car, even though my list of mods is the "classic" heavily (not extremely) modded MCS. I was amazed how "good" the stock MCS felt when I drove one a month or so ago. I suppose I thought it would be night and day compared to my car, but then why should it be? Despite all the mods, my car is still 95% OEM, by weight or volume or other measure.
I like my car, it's fun to drive especially on the track. I do the mods for the means, not the ends, I suppose.

So there you have it...three DFIC users are very happy..... what else do you need......my prediction is that at some point the epiphany of why it works will happen.... meanwhile Hornguys, MSFITOY, SpiderX and a cast of at least 100 others will enjoy the benefits.

3 very happy and 1 not too sure what's going on.

Saw the same thing with the GRS.

Or something like that.

The GRS made only a slight difference to me.

After having it for a while, I came to believe I should've saved my money.

I believe this to be one of my best mods......

with labor I paid close to this much for my intake manifold and snoots/plenum to be honed and I could not tell anything.....there are a few other mods i have that I do not wish to call out that did little or nothing.... The DFIC is a very good IMO device.......

Good to hear.

Your statement is sort of what I meant.
Why did you buy the GRS? Early word of mouth and seats of pants impressions? Some vaguely unrealistic claims? If not you then others certainly went that route.
The bumps in the road were where expectation and excitement met reality.

I'm just waiting and watching. Like I've said. I do hope all the dreams come true, it's a good thing for the MINI.

Umm, probably some from 2 and some from 3.

At the time, it made sense (hah!).

I'd done almost everything else, so this was the finishing touch, kinda.

And it was the finishing touch, because after that mod, and the relative lack of bang for the buck, my fever had abated.

Until I got the '06 and the virus returned with a vengeance.

BTW - the fit 'n finish of the GRS was excellent, I wasn't disappointed in its quality whatsoever.

Thanks. That's all I'm saying.
I get the feeling some think I'm taking shots at the DFIC, not true.
When it comes to performance goodies I've learned a healthy dose of skepticism can be useful

Here is my issue so far with this thread – I still don't know whether the DFIC is as good or better than my GRS and, if it is better, is it better enough to warrant a change. A change, BTW, that I would do if it made sense. I'll bet I'm better off putting that money to an M62.

I really like the improvement of the DFIC over the GRS.

But if it came down to either/or, I'm guessing it'd be the 62.

Especially since you have the extreme scoop with your GRS.

To be fair, I never had the scoop on my GRS.

Yes . . . I did notice a difference when I put the scoop on. It felt the same as if I had put a bigger intercooler on. So both together made for a better whole. But that of course is the butt dyno.

Personally, as a relatively new member of the MINI community, I immensely appreciate all of you sharing your collective knowledge with the rest of us. In my opinion, THAT is the real strength of NAM. I am much the wiser with my modding dollar because of it (and all of you).

My wife just picked up a lexus 400H - like Spidey says "change is inevitable"....just to share - 1) no tach but a volt gauge that looks and acts like a tach. 2) turn the key and you get a light that says "ready" - I drive away and the engine turns on a block from the house. 3) Vroom Vroom - is a sound of the past - quietest car I have driven. 3) this SUV is averaging 30 miles to the gallon and has access rights to the high speed lanes / commuter lanes regardless of number of people in the car.

Not a bad SUV but no fricking MINI either.

sorry back on topic
