HAI install gone awry - what did I mess up?

While I was installing my new K&N 1550 today, I unplugged the connector circled below unplugged, and accidentally started the car up. I had a rough idle for a few secs, CEL turned on, and the DSC light also turned on. Turned the car off, realized my mistake, plugged it back in, and turned the car back on. Ran fine. I now have a CEL, though, and the module which the arrow is pointing to makes a noise after I turn the car off. What exactly is this module, and what did I mess up? Is there any way to reset the CEL without purchasing a reset tool or going to the dealer?

Did you cycle the igition a few times after you fixed the problem? It usually takes a few on/off cyles for the light to clear if the condition that triggered the CEL goes away. I think the noise that is coming from your TB is normal...

That module is the throttle body servo and sensors. It goes through a reset every key-off, no need to worry.

I DID THE SAME THING!!! Just plug it in, and wait about an hour. Then start it up again. All will be good.

Check and recheck the placement of the filter on the TB [there is only _one_ way that allows the filter to fit, since the collar is asymmetric!] before tapping for the breather, if you are putting the breather on the underside of the filter. 3d reasoning can be tricky and you could end up putting a hole in the wrong side...lol.

I was planning on drilling a hole in the top of the filter by the K&N logo and placing it there. Would that be a good or bad place ot put it? If not, where SHOULD I put it?

I have very limited mechanic abilities, so the easies way possible would be nice, though I do like to learn, have plenty of tools, and would also like to make it as nice looking as possible.

Or does the breather filter just attach to the ccv line? Oh man, now I'm confused....I'm going to read the 23pages of OP: HAI now....
Ok, since I am also installing a breather filter, do I still need to tap anything into the airfilter itself? What I'm getting at right now is that once the HAI is installed the ccv line will be hanging there, then I still just let it hang there will the breather filter on?

Edit #24* Mine will look like this, correct?

There are two options for limiting emissions:
1) putting a breather on the line, like above
2) tapping somewhere along the intake tubes
...as I'm pretty sure you know...

Now, to tap into the intake plumbing with the HAI, since the 'normal' route is no longer possible, you may tap into the HAI filter [but NOT at the filter surface, to be clear!]. To do this, you again have two options:
1) Tap at the top RUBBER surface of the filter, if your K&N has a rubber top like the one above. OR
2) Tap at the bottom RUBBER surface near the filter neck.

When I did one, I chose the second route, because it looked cleaner. But, since the stock vacuum hose is short, you have to be REALLY careful that you tap the correct side so that it will reach, if you go below.

Hope this helps!

Sweet, thanks man. I read some more and it makes sense now with your descripsion. I'm buying the filter off of a guy and he is sending me the filter and a breather filter, so for now I will just use the breather filter.

I'll post when I get it. It should be here sometime next week hopefully, but maybe the week after that.
