Just got the pulley installed today. My MCS is totally bone stock- I can't believe the difference the pulley makes on it! Great bang for the buck.

Chris & Eric are the best! They helped me work this install into my busy schedule by meeting me before their regular hours so I could drop my car off and Chris even gave me a ride to work! I highly recommend the pulley and Helix13!!

Thanks guys!
Bryan

Hope this isn't too dumb...

First, where did you get your pulley? I've seen a different one on every MINI site.

AND...

How did you find someone to install it? Yellow pages? Recommendation? Dealer directory?

Thanks...

Helix in Philly did the install. One of the guys from there is on this board. He was also at the bear mountain MINI Meet.

I haven't yet seen anyone say how much this mod costs! Helix lists it as still in testing on their website. Also, is it available for the Cooper, or just the S? I'm not really interested in it for my car; I'm just curious.

BC28,

Damn! That was fast.

Congrats on the newfound torque (and power!). It was nice meeting you last weekend.

I have a pic of you standing in front of your car with a "I really want a pulley, but still have temp tags on my car" look on your face.

Errrm. Chris, does your Cooper have a supercharger? If so, then you can swap out the pulley. If not, then no.

No idea about price here - I have the non-supercharged Cooper.

Thanks. Now you know the vast extent of my knowledge regarding what exactly the pulley is/does.

I have learned a lot since I got my MINI. If you're interested/curious here is a quickie article from Howstuffworks.com. Although it is explaining the difference between a turbocharger and a supercharger, it does give you some basics about the supercharger. There are links to the article explaining a turbocharger - with diagrams and animations if you are further interested.

But, if you're not interested, that's fine too! I'm the type who has to know how things work, so I take a lot of things apart just to look and then put them back together!

You must not be reading my posts b/c I've written the costs numerous times (and how this is the best bang for the buck mod!).

You can get the pulley
here from Randy @ MINI-motorsport and the install takes around 4 or so hours by someone good who knows exactly what they're doing. So figure $250-350 for the install as a rough estimate. So you're talking $450-$550 for around 15 HP and 15lbs of torque. AND more power in the low range to boot.

Hey I just had a thought (uh oh, look out! ). Assuming after you got the pulley, you drove the same way at the same speeds. With more overall boost and more boost at lower RPMs, wouldn't you THEORETICALLY rev the engine less to get the same power, thus drive with lower RPMs and potentially PROLONG engine life????

Am I way off here? Again, just theoretically speaking. Obviously when one gets the pulley mod they're gonna use it. And often. But just a thought....Randy???

Just to clarify. Randy @ MINI-Motorsport and the guys @ Helix are selling the exact same pulley.

Welcome to MCO, TZKNUTS!

But, whoa easy there! We are all in love with the New MINI here, but most of us also have a healthy respect for (if not adoration of) the Classic Mini.

I can appreciate that there are indeed some very bitter Classic Mini enthusiasts out there with nothing but contempt for the New MINI - but that's no reason to discount the whole lot of them.

If you stick around here, you will find a lot of information and a lot of great, helpful people that will help you along your way to achieving your goal. For starters, check out the Sponsor Directory for great websites with performance parts.

Good luck in your quest!
