I have the OBX, a copy of the SuperSprint. For less than $200 it is well worth it, couldnt tell you about any others.

Wait for willy69s results of removing the precat off the OEM header. I think it looks promising.

I am currently waiting on Pilo racing to have their cat made up for their headers and then I will be ordering one of those. Ilike the fact that it is much cheaper then miltek, yet be able to take the cat off and put in a test pipe with a couple of bolts!

i emailed milltek about the header a while ago asking if its CARB certified and they replied "If you mean is it homologated, then no it isn't I am afraid." and i think that means no...

I'm running the OBX, have no complaints and like what it has done for the car. Which is best? It's a question of what variables are important to you. What made the OBX best for me was adding 2hp and 8lbs of TQ for $200.00.

stock header minus the precat, 6hp with no sftware upgrade. very simple mod and when you are done it looks exactly like the stock header.

cheers

Sounds like a great idea for the people who want to get a little more power on the cheap. But I would rather keep the header stock and just get an aftermarket one with better flowing tubes and if I need to bring the car back to stock I can!

There is a new one from Janspeed that may be good. Has replaceable cat and de-cat tube. Not sure if anyone here is importing them.

Hey, I have a brand new OBX header with stock MCS cat stainless welded to it (ready to install), complete with hogged out head flange bores for sale for $400, or $300 if you send me your good header core. I hogged out the bores because the OBX doesn't always fit perfectly: this way you don't have to use studs to make the damn thing fit. You want it? Gimme a call at 215 739 8800.

My first post in a long time, so please forgive if I'm off the beam...

First, I'm in California, so I have been hoping for CARB-approved, which Milltek is not, but Alta claims to be (at least their CAT -- they have not yet claimed that the rest of the header package is CARB-okay. All the other headers I've seen/heard about are NOT CARB-approved, is that correct?

Or does anyone know of one or more that are CARB-legal?

Also, I don't think you can weld up some home brew and expect to pass -- isn't that correct also?

Anyway, I have been following Alta's annoucements of their new header being ready, and they claim it was "now available" as of over a week ago, but NONE of their dealers that I've been looking at (e.g., Out Motoring) have announced it or made it available on therir respective on-line catalogs???

So last question is: does anyone have some clarity or insight to shed on this?

Thanks.

Mark Driskill

Some sort of header work/unit

there is a phase 2 in planning...

I am by no means an expert on CARB requiements but I would think if you took an existing CARB approved CAT and welded it to a CAT-less header you would still be OK, or no? any way, I found some CARB info on their website. I'm sure others can chime in that have more experience with the issue.

Thanks. I looked at the CARB web site before. My issue is that I don't want to have to change everything out to go to the "smog check". That's why I selected the K&N Typhoon over some of the other CAIs -- theirs has a CARB sticker to post under my hood. Alta indicated earlier to me in an e-mail (not on NAM) that they were "trying to determine" whether what you allege in your post is true -- i.e., that a CARB-approvede CAT = CARB-approved header/CAT assembly. "One" would think so, but then, "one" is usually not a bureaucrat. They so love to make the "little people" squirm, don't they.

Thanks for the effort, haulinS.
