Twin Charge on the track

I looks as if a few of the twin charge cars will be at the Vegas event . Are any of you planning on taking them to the track for the Phil Wicks track day? I would be very interested in seeing how they perform on a real race track.

Well over 100 people have looked at this thread but no one has committed. I know of at least 2 twin charged cars that will be at AMVIV, Tuls and dominicminicoopers ,and I would think there might be others as well.I would love to see how they perform at the track during the Phil WIcks event. With this location being more or less in their back yard, so to speak ,it seems like a good opportunity. I am sure that others would enjoy seeing this come about as well. I am more interested in track events and if this system proves reliable in that environment it would be of interest to me.

Most of these "T2" cars are for the drag strip and street racing

I hope someone can give Randy Webb a race in unlimited

Sorry just saw this thread..

There is only ONE TC Mini FOR draging...and that's the MINI USA Drag car...

I am a huge road racer....the only reason I have ever draged is cause it is in fact the only way to see what you car is really putting down...and your self ofcourse...

There is alot of things I need before I will track the car hard...namley...brakes and lines...having that power means more to stop...I am not a fan of brake fade...LOL..not that I am complaining...just have been racing long enough to know better...

John,

I'll be there....just don't know how well my stock clutch will put up with 300hp at a track event. If I can get a good clutch in there...count me in.

FWIW, I'll be doing the "high performance driving school" not the "race". I need to learn how to control the car with its new found power...so there will be no racing against the distinguished Randy Webb. He can outclass me racing a Yugo. LOL

I don't think he meant it as such... Given Randy's previous outings, I'm guessing that he was quite serious.

Sounds great ! I am just interested in seeing how the system handles a track day not absolute speed as in race results. I am happy to see someone willing to step up to the plate so to speak.

So to speak is correct. I'm not really stepping up to the plate per se. It's more that I had planned to do a track day in Vegas ever since AMVIV I...but the planets didn't align ( Cudo's to Agro and his team who coordinated the Phil Wicks Driving academy to coincide with this year's AMVIV) So anywho, it's not that I need to race it, I need to get the power down on a track where it's safe to find the limits of myself, not necessarily the limits of the car. My ability to drive (or inability) should not reflect upon the quality or power of the SPI PowerExcel / FTR twincharge kit.
Well due to recent circustances, I'm not going to be participating in the HPDE. Too expensive for instruction and only 1 15 minute track session. See
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...9&goto=newpost
for more information about Phil Wicks using the same track on the same day for both his race series and for his school. Only one session will be available for the school drivers (three total, but segregated into 3 distinct levels students).

NO JOKE ... I am just an observer

He was SMOKING all the other MINIS at Laguna Seca (Till his pulley belt snapped)

Until his pulley snapped, the race was a 2 man contest, the Webb Mule and a Vette. Randy was ahead for 3-4 laps and then got passed on a straight, still was right behind the Vette, Vette almost went off, but kept it under control and threw dirt, debris onto the track and Randy ...

The SCCA , MINI MANIA, Dealership Sponsored guys were there in that race too, I would say a quarter to half lap back

Once Randy went down, the Vette pulled away and the MINI race was between the Original MINI and a New MCS ... The Little MINI passed for the Cooper win

I really wish I had the bank roll for this...I too need a real clutch...I also need better brakes and tires...racing is an expense...and right now I am still building...I have had enough track expirence to know better...it's not fun if you get brake fade....it's also not fun if you screw your clutch and are 500 miles from home....etc etc...

when I can afford there will be plenty of plate stepping....

hey! if you want I'll be happy to TC your car for you...then YOU can race! LOL

I was speaking with Randy a couple of days ago... and DOES indeed have video of Laguna, and apparently it is very good footage! He has no idea on how to host it though. So, if anyone can do so for him, I'm sure he'll appreciate the assistance... Of note, the Vette was of the 500 hp variety as well...

There are certainly more powerful MINI's out there, but one will be hard-pressed to find one more track prepared than Randy's. I've only seen Randy auto-x, and he was amazing... and after chatting with others who have seen him road race, I'm convinced the man is an exceptional driver.

He had never been to Laguna before, and with his car not being set-up for it, he was still turning 1:45's. Having witnessed GrandAm cars last year there, that is quite impressive. He thinks he can drop that down 2-3 seconds more the next time he's there... Of note, he had to lay-off the gas as he went by the sound station, and the video, with audio reveals this...

Funny you mentioned the Mania car... He, I believe Don, was telling Randy that was his home track. AMVIV, unlimited... if there's a favorite going-in, it's Mr Webb.

How large is the video? I can host it if I can get it somehow - the limit on my email is 10MB.

Randy Webb owns all.

Those in denial should just accept it.

What was really funny was how LONG it took the Vette to pass him !!! The Vette looked like he passed him going uphill, before turn 6, then after the corkscrew, turn 9, Randy was back out in front, it was very exciting

The Vette started last, running start, 9 or 10 cars, passed everyone but Randy after a few laps, then it was a dog fight, very fast

I have pics of the race, start, pre-line-up and during, not many though

Thats a bold statement.. If any one wants to put a little money up I promise that I WILL prove you wrong... We are in Vegas why not bet on track racing... I guaranttee you I can bring a set of drivers that will own all!

Step back and look at what goes on outside the mini world and realize they are "race drivers" who do this for a living.

I am in for 100$ on Webb ... if :

1. No twin charge opponents
2. Randy fixes his belt bracking issues

Well, almost all...

The venerable Mr. Webb once told me that Hans Stuck took Randy's old 914/6 around a track that Randy thought he was pretty much maxxed on. Without knowing the car well, Hans apparently took a second off of Randy's lap time. LOL.

If only I could say Hans was only 1 second faster than me

Most here are not worthy

What about our resident trackie onasled? Is he gonna make it down? Maybe someone would loan him a ride?

for a money on the table show, how about Webb and M7? isn''t Peter's car pretty well set up and doesn't he have considerable track skills? Maybe we could get Onasled out there showing videos of himself passing M7 and Webb?

Now we are getting places. Its going to take a little more than $100 for me to fly a few drivers in, but we will see what happens.

If the race happens There is no backing out if someones car breaks. Reliabilty is half the battle. You are only as fast as you car can go... If you car can't go I guess you aren't very fast at all.

Hey I didnt say anything about money.

But now that you mention it:

$100 bucks on Webb to win versus ANY MINI. (Triple charge it if you like - hell put a jet engine it it, it's still going to lose. Put Schumacher in the drivers seat too for all I care - just make sure it's a MINI)

All bets off if ANY MINI that is currently in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place breaks and fails to finish.

This is for the "MINI Unlimited race" of course.

Personally I would like to see any twin charge race put their money where their mouth is and race RW. Another good nominee for the battle I would love to see is Bob S. aka Canyon MINI. This guy is fast. And if anyone can beat RW in a MINI, it will be him.
