Drivetrain Twin Charge on the track

I have attended the schools more than once where a race was also scheduled and there was PLENTY of track time for students.

Nopey, I'm a thinkin' there are three sessions per group before lunch and three (sometimes more) after lunch. You might call or email Phil so you are sure about your choice for Vegas.
It is great fun to be out on a track full of MINIs and Minis.

So I guess this means we are back to NO Twin charge appearing on a real race track? Now that is a disappointment. I don't blame you though Dom if that is the deal . That is a lot of money for a little bit of time. Out here we normally run 25 to 30 min sessions so that is the time period I am interested in seeing one survive. I thought the vegas area was somewhat near the center of Twin charge universe and would have had at least one car step up. I am sure I am not the only one that would be interested in such a program if it can be shown to be track reliable. I am not looking to see one win a race but just survive 3 or 4 good track sessions in one day. Anybody else with me on this ?

I did a google search for Bell Auto Racing Helmets. I choose Bell, because I've heard they're quite good.
I saw: http://www.saferacer.com/bellhelmets.html in the results list, so I clicked it.
The most expensive was 999 and the least expensive was 369. The average price (of their sale prices) on this page is 458.00. Since it's you get what you pay for, I figured I'd go slightly above halfway. Sorry if I did not spend hours and hours researching for a quickie post to get my point across...I don't have all day...

Anyone know the day and time of the race?
On the AMVIV website, it appears that there's a driving school all day Sat. Maybe it's aftewards, or possibly on Sun...
Looks like I'll be able fly-out for the weekend... Thanks much.

Tony,
I believe the two events are being run together on Saturday. I haven't seen a specific schedule with times though. As I recall the sequence was something like:

I just completed a lapping day at BeaveRun with my TurboKompressor MINI. It was a blast. The MINI is a total beast. We ran 20-minute sessions that were absolutely trouble-free from a motor point of view. I made an effort to keep the rpm's under 7000, but I'm not entirely sure I was succesful. I definately ran long periods at WOT. I did spin and go off in turn 6 without any damage. Unfortuately, may day ended when the wheel balancing weight on the left front wore a hole in my brake line while on the track. Luckily I discovered I had 0 brakes where it wasn't fatal.
All in all, a great day.

Thanks so much for posting this. Finally some first-hand real experience.
Here's a picture (thank you Dave Bunting!) of my 300hp twin-charged car on the track for 5 sessions of a high performance driving school. Even though this was not a race school, I still pushed the car harder then I ever have on the street with my t/c.

I ran three 20 min sessions, then two 30 min sessions. My second session was cut short by an off at the end of the straighaway (missed the braking point and any "off" you're supposed to come in and be debriefed by Phil Wicks). I skipped the last (sixth) session because my wife wanted to return to the hotel to get a shower to make it in time for the AMVIV dinner.
Since I know you'll ask...
I had one mechanical issue that was fixed with a couple of hoseclamps. All I lost was one lap on the track during the 3rd session (I came in just as they were ending the session with the checkered flag). The surgery to the car (removing the entire front bumper to access the area) looked worse than the actual issue. The tube had come off due to RPM restrictions put on us by our classroom instructor. The instructor asked us for the 3rd session to run around the track in a constant gear and to keep the RPMs under 5k. The first two sessions we were allowed to run whatever gear we wanted. The tube came off after about 15 laps boosting the car at lower RPMs. With me below the 5k RPM restriction, meant the supercharger was not spinning fast enough to allow the turbo's airflow to flow thru without backing up creating pressure in an area of the tubing the car was not designed to handle. Had I had the RPMs up high with the same boost coming from the turbo, this issue would not have happened. This was proved with the first two sessions and the last two sessions as I ran them at higher RPMs and did not have this issue.
* Was my incident caused by having a t/c kit on the car? Yes. * Was this issue preventable? Yes...by ignoring the instructor's requirement to run below 5k RPM...or I could have run lightly on the gas pedal not putting the car into load conditions which spools the turbo agressively. * Can the symptom happen on a non-t/c'd car? Yes, if the tube comes loose from the supercharger, which I have heard reports of this happening.
FWIW, I had an instructor drive the car for a half dozen laps and they were very quick with it. Corner speed is everything. Goes to show you that driver does make a difference. In this case, it was a huge difference. The car is capable of much more performance than I can give it.
Yes I drove the car home to Phoenix after AMVIV without incident. Driving at ludicrus speeds, rev'ing and boosting all the way!
