Dominicminicoopers,

Excelent job there! Neat and clear job... I cant do this mod cause the Aerokit bumper cant have the rear valance removed, it's together with the bumper. How's the sound, loud? any clip / video for us?

Nope....

But funds are tight now, and it's a workable combo..... Eventually I'll go back to aftermarket cat, 2.5" pipe, and some sort of or combo of sound suppression. But this works, and I've got too pool my resorces for other stuff....

Since the stock post header exhaust really quiets it down, I can't help but guess it's choking the crap out of the motor. When I had the noisey set up on, it sure FELT more powerfull, over the whole band. But when you're ears are ringing, you can't trust your judgement...

Matt

Working on getting some a/v clips of it. It's very bassy sounding. I'll try a short clip with my digi camera and see how it sounds. At 3.5k RPMs under load it's very noisy, however It's very quiet when at higher RPMs. Lots of back-fires and brubles and pops in many situations.

Don't have one of those ball-and-chains. Hate 'em!

However, I was able to capture some audio with my Nikon Coolpix S1 digital camera. Just remove the txt extension from my attached file.

I measured last night with a cooper valence. I'd have to cut new holes on both sides and then still have the stock hole to deal with. The stock hole is 3" too far to the right to line up correctly.

Thanks for loading the clip...sounds nice, a bit more docile than i would have thought. The pops and burbles are "crisp" sounding. Very cool !

More than likely the docileness is caused by the turbo. Turbo's are well known to quiet down exhaust systems.

I'm not sure that's true as a general rule. I recall back from my american iron days that to truly achive the sleeper status you needed to bolt on the lowest back pressure and quietest muffler you could find, which at that time was the Chrysler Imperial muffler. A huge and heavy thing, it would make your V8 sound like a vacuum cleaner when you floored it - whoooosh. This was back when the local PD were allowed to modify their cars - and they did. It was amusing to hear those big police V8s as they took off on a call, whooshing out the back while the tires chirped at every shift from the aftermarket shift kit their mechanics installed.

How much was that setup if you don't mind me asking?

Samtraks Custom Exhaust

bout time i found this thread!
well here its is folks....

complete with sound byte(car was stationary):

http://leftsideproductions.com/sams%20stuff/exhaust.mp3

though the crappy mic wont do it justice... the sound is actually very low in tone.

"That's the second loudest MINI I've heard." Peter Horvath, M7

"That sounds like an M3." Matthew Aiken, car afficianado

"What the hell is going on under there?" Ivan Diaz, µ

the whole system weighs in at 10 lbs... this is from the muffler back. with the drycell operation and lack of rear seats.... this puts the rear end approx 100lbs lighter than stock.

30 lbs stock exhaust difference
21lbs drycell difference
10lbs battery box and shrouding difference
30lbs rear seats difference
08lbs rear seatbelts difference

the tourqe and top end hp feel well balanced with this amount of backpressure... it compares to the feeling of the straight through suppertrapp with 9 plates on it.

cost...$200.00

now only to dyno it.
