Reduction pulley? If so with the belt tensioner pulled back w/ tensioner tool/ prybar the belt should slip on no problem. If your doing the crank pulley I haven't done that one yet, but imagine it would be much the same.

Sorry cant be more helpful.

Yeah, I am changing my supercharger puller, but I don't have a belt tensioner tool. I can't seem to pry the tensioner back. Can I remove the tensioner, then put the belt on, then put the tensioner back on?

If your engine is still lifted, then you should be able to use a long bar/ secewdriver and leverage against the crank. ( I know not the best way, but without a tensioner tool its about the only way) Then place a pin thru the hole in the bar on the inside of the spring on the tensioner.

Might want to make sure you have the tensioner on correctly, and if you have it off you might be able to compress it then, put the belt on, and then release the tension.

If you plan on changing the belt in the future (I went from stock to JCW) your gonna need the tensioner tool.

I've given up. Without the tensioner tool I can't get the belt back on. Does anyone in the Phoenix area have one that I can use? I live in east mesa. I would be very grateful. I ordered one but it won't get here for a couple days.

Sorry I'm not closer. I would lend you mine. If the engine is still lifted you should be able to do it with a bar of some sort. I stuck small bolts, or allan wrenches in the holes on the side of the tensioner so I would have something to lever against.

How did you get it off?

If I put the car back together now, then use the tensioner tool later, will I be able to get the belt on?

Thanks everyone for the help. Thank you Tod for coming over and helping me with the belt. My mini is running good now. And thanks Tod for telling me about the Desert Rat Pack club. I will definitely check it out.

What a great resource this board is - so glad to hear that 88m found someone as near and helpful as Tod. Great thread!

After two years of ownership, I still have not installed the reduction pulley. I really need to get that done. Maybe Santa will bring me a pulley for Christmas. Gotta love the NAM community for helping other MINI owners. Glad to hear that everything worked out.
