JCW CAI and Injectors...o.k. for stock S?

I want to instal a CAI. I have a stock 03 S. Would there be an advantage to install the JCW CAI / injectors kit on a non-pulley car?
Thanks for the info!

With the JCW Injectors you will need your ECU Flashed. I will be doing this next wed aswell.

I'm considering the JCW intake on my '05 MCS as well. So far my search has not uncovered much in the way of comparative info against competing aftermarket intakes. Any such info would be greatly appreciated.

The JCW intake is overpriced. I would got with the ALTA and some might say the M7 AGS is great but it's still a intake. Don't expect anything but a cool sound. 2-3hp at the most.

I called Dinan and a CAI is $249.00 plus $120.00 to install plus $400.00 to install the software. The software will remap the air/fuel ratios and change the rev limiter (increase by 300 rpm).
Other cars are have CAI and no ECU changes. I know that changing the ECU will enhance the performance, but is this the right way to go?
I like the ALTA but, I'm not sure if I want to hear the throttle body suck air. Whine is cool...sucking is not so cool.

Whoa? Chainging your ECU for a Intake? Reset your chip and drive hard and your ECU should adapt. If you change your injectors i would do something to the ECU. Also, install the intake yourself..it should be easy. I did mine on my own

You should also be very aware of your stock A/F ratio vs the JCW injectors. I doubt very much that your otherwise stock motor will take advantage of the larger injectors. You may actually lose hp, and, wash the cylinders. Add the 15% pulley with the larger injectors, CAI and ECU reflash.

here's a bit of comparative info:

JCW Intake - paper filter - replacement cost ~$90!!!!!!

Alta/Pilo/K&N - foam/gauze filter - replacement cost $0 (just clean it)

BBD, that's a good point. It would seem that there are numerous pros & cons to each intake. And at least as many opinions.

Pat-

Was that a JCW intake you installed? I understand that it is somehow connected to the ECU, which tells the "door" to open above 4500 rpm.

Does the ECU send a signal to the intake that says "open"? (Seems to me that might require re-programming the ECU so that it becomes aware of the intake.) Or are the smarts in the intake, ie, does the intake just take an rpm reading and know to open above 4500?

(Did that make sense?)

Based on some reading on MINI2, I'd say the connection to the ECU is simply to get the engine speed. I think the intake knows to open the door at 4500 rpm.

Can the open point be re-programmed? I'd like it to open at 3500.

With a dealership install of a JCW CAI, won't the dealership be responsible for replacing the air filter during service 1?

Just a thought..

Cheers,
Matthew Z.

You read my mind. I'm not sure of the optimal point for opening the door, but I wouldn't be surprised if 4500 rpm is a performance vs quiet comprimise.

Exactly. I'd like to optimize for performance rather than quiet. I do love the whine...
