250 hp John Cooper Works?!

I've put down a $1000 deposit for an '05 Cooper S convertible @ Roadshow MINI in Memphis, TN. Today I spoke with the salesman about a possible Minimania Stage III upgrade and he told me that the '05 Works package would up the hp to 250! I asked him if he meant 215, and he confirmed with his manager (who I heard in the background) who again told him 250hp!

Has anyone else heard this number? Are these guys having me on? Definitely sounds too good to be true.

Hmmm...Who knows. But let's look at this. The current JCW kit gives you 37hp for $5-6k. So what's another 50 gonna cost....$12-15k? At that point I'd spend $4-5k on a twin-charged MCS (turbo and supercharged) and get that kind of power. But to answer your question, no I haven't heard about a 250hp JCW next year. But if they do it, I doubt it would be warrantied.

...my B.S. meter just busted. Thank's a lot.

The "new" JCW couldn't put out 250 in it's wettest of dreams. Even 215 is a bit doubtful.

Probably confusing the race track only packages. (i.E. no warranty)

I agree that it sounds unbelievable, but the salesman sounded sure of him self and did confirm with the manager (or someone he said was the manager). I wonder if these guys were smoking crack.

Maybe Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are helping out at Cooper industries.

No way is this happening. The salesman and manager were way off. But hey it doesn't suprise me that much, these are probably the same guys telling everyone there is no such thing as a stumble.

:D ....250hp with factory warranty

A Porsche Boxster might just be as expensive then.

Has the Minimania Stage III upgrade claimed 250HP in any other MINI and if so lets see the sheets on it.

For 250 hp your going to be spending $10k-$12k plus installation knowing the way Cooper Works has done it in the past.

PLEASE....
Much better solutions out there...

Someone is full of it. The 2005 JCW is suposed to be good for an additional 10-20hp over the original JCW (200hp). 220 tops.

They better get it together, they are gonna have some pissed off customers if they keep on running aroung telling people 250.

CooperSDriver - what's that MCS with 215 whp in your sig if you don't mind me asking? At this point in time, I can't imagine what mods you'd have to have to get that. I don't think there current are enough mods available to get that on Helix's dyno, that's for sure. An intake, exhaust and 15% pulley only gives you 175-178whp there. For 215 i'd imagine you need intake, exhaust, 19%pulley, throttle body, head, header, cams, plugs, wires, intercooler, heck and probably some dry ice. What you got under that bonnet????

Wouldn't MM Stage 3 or equivalent get at least 215 to the wheels?

I agree with Greatgo the to go is the twin-charged MCS (turbo and supercharged). Real basic system will give you 250Hp at wheels.
And no sever engine modifications.

System packages for the S will be available soon. A matter of months.

Very nice, CooperSdriver. Nice to see some people here who are serious about mods. I'm picking up my 05 Cooper S in the next few weeks and can't wait to get started (last car was a highly modified A4 1.8t). :D

Thanx, I got the car on the dyno today, I had to fix a leak on the intercooler connections before I dynoed the car. I was very happy with the results I got.
The thing is there is a Silver Cooper S here in Miami, that actually had custom pistons made so to bore the block and has 253 at the wheels but I havent been able to meet the guy. The car was dynoed, so I saw the sheets, but now I want to meet him to find out more on the specs. This is no joke.
I thought the same, but know I believe.

By my estimates, that would be north of $14,000.00 of parts alone!! Then labor too! Rock on!

I'm sniffing around...what size injectors? and how does it run with them at less than WOT? what rpm did you measure your peak hp at? running up to 7400 with the 19% pulley is humping! did you measure A/F?

Sort of...I have a pretty good knowledge on cars and I was able to do alot of the porting and polishing myself, also I have done 95% of the installations myself, the rest I got help from other friends. I am building the car to be a full out track car. I would say that the total cost of the mods has come out to $9,500.00 thats $3,500.00 more than what some people are spending for the JCW kit. Its a work in progress. For the power I have, and the way this car feels I can't argue.

The injectors are 400cc, the cars runs pretty smooth except for some sacrifice in the mileage, I mean, personally I haven't felt to much of a difference with the injectors. Maybe it is because when I did the injectors, I was installing the cylinder head, cam, cam gear. The hp was read at 6800 rpm, the highest i've revved the car to is 7200 rpm, I haven't had a problem yet... but when it does create one I will have to find a solution. The car still runs on the rich side, but it has leaned out some. I don't have the A/F #s on me right now but I can get those for you. Feel free to ask anything and I will try to answer to the best of my knowledge. I some some things but not all, I still needed someone to run the flow bench to make sure I didn't screw up somewhere. I have, like I said a pretty good knowledge on cars, but I still need alot to learn...
Thanx again.
