Good job CooperSDriver. That is a lot of mods, more than I have ever seen. Nice hp too. You making about what an EVO VIII makes (@215hp at the wheels), with the lighter weight it should really scoot.

I know that AmD had their test car at 398hp at the wheels, until it blew. They haven't been able to push 400hp yet.

it does look very good, but for a normally rich runing car in midrange, anyway, i'm curious about A/F with the larger injectors. supposedly, that is the range where the closed loop function of the ecu will correct, within limits. I wonder if the Evo boys (also in Florida) were able to tweak their chip mod for those injectors.

Nice set up...I have:

Custom Port and Polish Cyl Head noth inatke and exhaust
Shrick Race Cam
Mini Mania Intake with some custom ducting to get a little more cold air
Mini Mania single ball cat back (I like the sound but will change it to Borla as I feel it's costing me HP)
Removed Precat and bored flanges on the header
Dendo Iridiums
Hotwire Plug wires
19% Pulley
Intercooler has had the nub cleaned off and polished
62mm TB
Shark Software
H-Sport Springs, Koni adj. shocks, H-Sport race sways front and back, Steve's Links
Volk LE37's
Stoptech BBK front and Stoptech rotors rear all will Axxis Ultimate pads

As you can see I have a little less than you and I make 200 exactly. I just got finished with a track weekend at Street of Willow here in Socal and I *WISH* I had that Quaife!! I could have made much better times. At 190+ HP it is an absolute necessity!!

I dont believe for one second that JCW will make 250.

Umm, no. I have an evo. 230-245 is normal stock for an evo 8 (all wheel dyno).

Gee that last 10hp doesn't seem worth it. A pulley, intake, exhaust and ECU can get you 190+HP at the wheels. Throttle body, cams, head and header all for 10 more? I'll stop after the GIAC...I think!

No one that I have seen have one dyno has gotten that high. You are looking at a 9% driveline loss. No way. The highest I have seen was about 225hp and that was only once. Most that I have seen fall short of 220hp. Most 4-wheel drive cars lose at least in the 20% field. Maybe you saw someone get 245hp, but it was an optomistic dyno.

I don't think that's right about getting 190whp from just those mods. Show me a setup that dyno'd that and I'll eat my words, but you're looking at much less than 190whp for pulley, intake, exhaust, and ECU.

Getting back to the original posters question, I too bought my MINI from Roadshow (note I'm in Los Angeles), and for the most part, the sales people were good, but there were several instances of things they told me that were just plain wrong.

The most blatant was that my factory nav's GPS could be enabled to track my car from MINIUSA should it get stolen. He was confusing Onstar or Lojack with the factory nav.

I'm not at all surprised if they were convinced that this package were available.

I asked him if he meant 215, and he confirmed with his manager (who I heard in the background) who again told him 250hp!

Has anyone else heard this number? Are these guys having me on? Definitely sounds too good to be true.

Anyone that believes the 05 JCW MINI package in going to deliver 250 HP is living in a different MINI universe than the rest of us!

2005 JCW kit

If you go to the JCW site the new kit for 2005 has a HP rating of 210. There is also an add on kit for older cars with new Filter kit, injectors and ecu upgrade for an extra 10HP.I believe this kit brings 05 up to 220HP unless this is part of the 05 kit.

Mike,

Greatgro is right, you can get there with those mods alone. You'll see small incremental gains with most any mod, but with higher octane East coast fuel, a 19% pulley and ECU, I'm sure Greatgro will be at least at 190whp.

Sorry, I still don't buy it; the numbers don't add up. Like I said I'll change my beliefs if I see proof, but until then, the numbers just don't seem to add up.

AMPR, like I said, 190 at the wheels with those mods is pure BS. Here's a link to some info GBMINI posted about the dyno day they just had. His JCW got 168.2 at the wheels, and he said that the others with pulley, intake, ecu were getting similar numbers. No one came close to 190 to the wheels. You may be confusing at the wheels with at the crank numbers as a lot of these dynos (the one at Arrowsport included, if they choose to turn it on) will show you the extrapolated crank hp instead of the whp. links 1 and 2 in the thread linked to below are non-extrapolated; link 3 is extrapolated.

Mini Mania claims that their Stage 3 kit will increase horsepower by 50%, so 163hp x .5 + 163 = 244.5 hp.

From Mini Mania's Website:

STAGE III KIT 91 OCTANE BORLA COOPER S '04
Motor Trend Magazine says "the Stage III components increase the MINI's fun factor to near carnival-ride proportions" (Feb. 04 issue).

The Stage III kit includes complementary products to increase the stock 163 horsepower by 50%(!), without sacrificing driveability. The improvement is felt throughout the rpm range from off-the-line all the way to redline. This kit includes Cold Air Intake, Exhaust Header (for off-road use only), Cat Back Exhaust System, Pulley Upgrade, ECU Upgrade, Hi Flow Head, Performance Camshaft, Throttle Body upgrade, and a set of Iridium plugs to top it off.

Fits 2004 MINIs built mid-January 04 and later.

This kit includes the 91 Octane ECU upgrade, see part number NMK1031 for the 93 octane version. ECU upgrades are available ONLY for U.S. spec MINIs.

Cylinder Head Gasket Kit with Head Bolts available, order NME1060.

Professional installation is recommended. Dyno results may vary.

That's well-known information. What does this have to do with anything being discussed here?

Ah, nope, just talking about the JCW kit. I'm actually somewhat interested in going the Mini Mania route with my 05, but I can't convince myself that their reliability is good enough, etc. I've heard of very few who have gone with their staged kits, and of the very few I have heard everyone seems to have had problems...

Just a thought, but the 250hp claim might be including the new bits offered by John Cooper Garage in addition to the Works package. They have a new cold air induction system, very similar to the Dinan kit, that looks good and should add a few more ponies over stock. Also, I'd not be surprised at all if they have their own throttle body coming out soon...

If the throttle body added 3hp and the cai added 10, that would bring a new MCS with the works up to over 230hp - just numbers off the top of my head, don't scrutinize them too closely.... but those numbers are similar to what other popular aftermarket companies claim for their own versions of same parts.

I'd say it's entirely possibly, but still sounds like BS to me....

I do however think that JCG realizes they have pushed the envelope of prices that can be charged on the works kit as they are not raising the price on the new and improved version, and the aproximately $400 bandied about for the upgrade for existing owners sounds reasonable to me if it includes the new jets and the labor to install/tune everything.
