Fuel consumption w/ 19%

Has anyone noticed that the mileage of the MCS according to the on board computer fluctuates a whole lot with the 19% pulley. Does this mean that the ECU is flooding the cylinders to cool them? Temp today was roughly at 90deg F and 70% humidity. I've just had the 19% for 3 days and its getting me worried.

I don't have a red pully, but I think it all depends on how you drive it. Like
on my turbo car I have the boost set pretty high, but at the same time
I programmed a lot of fuel to the mix as well. therefore, if I floor it a lot
I obviously get much less milage thus fluctuating the mpg between normal
and sprited driving even if its within the same 15min spin.

let's see wat the guys say.

If your driving habits remain the same (yeah right! ), than your mileage will be the same. If your right foot remains parallel to the floor for any duration, your fuel needle will dive to the left accordingly.

Kenchan, what is a red pully>??

Bisch is right on about the urge to nail it and there go's the gas milage. The other thing is weather temp's in the 90's are going to decrese your gas mileage too.

norm03,

I think Kenchan's "red pully" means "reduction pulley upgrade".

The computer readout for mpg is not very accurate so I would be less concerned about small fluctuations in the values if your overall true "calculated by hand" mpg numbers are stable and solid. Don't rely on the mpg numbers on your computer.

With a fully modded MCS with 19% reduced pulley for overall mixed driving expect about 26-28 mpg or less.

High intake heat is not an issue for the 19% in hot weather during normal street driving. It can be one, on a long track in the middle of the summer on a hot day. Over in Hawaii we can get up to 90 degrees in the summer but we don't see any problems with the 19% pulley on the street, at autocross or on the track over the last 6 months.

Of those that have the 19% and haven't had any problems with the tropical heat and humidity, are they running bigger intercoolers or stock?

Other than caddman, I think most everyone here with the 19% is running the stock intercooler.

Overall, my mileage is the same. Intake made no difference, 15% pulley improved mileage, UUC exhaust lower mileage. I'm thinking b/c the exhaust is so free-flowing and it's constantly gurgling and burning up gas in the pipes. With the 19% I saw no change in mileage. And the A/C is always on. I hate the heat and am always hot. I run A/C full blast or close to it from late March to early november. And even in the winter if I use heat the A/C is on to keep things dry. I've driven my MINI with the 19% on quite a few 90+ degree days so far. Very little power loss also - much less than the 15% so I highly doubt the ECU is dumping fuel to keep things rich.

All are running stock intercoolers. No problems. No upgraded ECUs, all stock.

I don't even have a cold air intake, let alone a hyper-intercooler! My only engine mod is the 19% pulley. No problems, but not as smooth as stock applying power. After the pressing need to see what the pulley does, I see a consistant 27mpg. That's another Hawaii car, seeing 80+ degrees F.

Thanks for the replies. What's weird with my car is that when stopped my fuel consumption goes up very quickly, with in seconds. Then it goes back down again while I'm moving. I was thinking maybe since the intercooler isn't getting any air while stopped, the cyclinders might be getting too hot since the boost is already higher than normal.

Actually, with the 19% I tend to NOT floor the throttle since there is more torque. But still I am thinking about getting a bigger intercooler, I sure need it with the heat, and its not even summer.

johnD, the trip computer works on averages. Your fuel mileage as well as average speed will change when you come to an idle stop.
