Stock K03 to K04 Conversion No Tune

I'm sure you guys probably have talked about this before but I can't seem to find it. I have a 2013 Cooper S and as you guys know the tuning solutions for this car is pretty limited. I been wanting to do a turbo upgrade for some time but I was seeing if we can upgrade the turbo internals without a tune and the DME will run just fine. Any of you guys know if that is possible? I'm pretty sure you guys know about the http://gpopshop.com/services/turbo-upgrades/
for $550.

Well I have a JB+ too but can the turbo upgrade just be direct with no modifications?

Considering an upgrade as well. JM Turbo Cooper sells a 42mm KO3 hybrid that according to them can be used without tuning the DME.

As I recall the MCS is 38mm and the JCW is 40mm so 42 should be a nice bump.

The 45 and 47mm KO4 variants they list as requiring a tune.

I'm the type of person that will push the envelope on most things in my life, but I would never do a bigger turbo, cam, or more boost with out a tune. Software is EVERTHING now a days. I have blown up a couple Mini motors, because the tune was just slightly off. Not only will a tune protect you from blowing up your car, but will make your car faster, smoother, more efficient and safer. The N14's guys can get full cutom dyno tunes for $600, us N18's will have to wait it out.

I have the conversion from gpop and it is a little more than $550 once youfactor in insured shipping back and forth. But the guys are great and i thinkit is worth it. I have the accessport with the stage 3 tune on it but it is nottuned for the turbo just the stock one. I do notice that it keeps the pullgoing strong through the entire rpm range but i do not think you will need thetuning. I actually did it just to make sure the turbo was strong and wouldn’tblow done the road. I have run it really hard on the track about 5 this past yearontop off dd and it have worked great.

Quoted for excellence and truth.

Build it correctly the first time ( yes, it will be more expensive ) and save money in the long run, have much better results, and won't lunch its self.

Can ALTA hook you up with their Stage 4 tune? The one they used for their upgraded Billet Turbo.

i was thinking about giving them a call, but i haven’t had any issues withit at all, the only thing about the accessport that kind of stinks is evenrunning the stage 3 tune it's not really made for my car. im running the rissracing dp not theirs, invidia catback not theirs stock intake box with knfilter not there’s and now a different turbo not theirs. Yes the tune now doesgive me lots more power but its nowhere near fine tuned like it would be if ihad all alta parts on the car

You're unlikely to see significant performance increases with just a turbo upgrade without a tune. The Factory tune utilizes boost and torque targets, meaning that power output will be limited regardless of the size of the turbo internals. You may even throw codes if the lag from a bigger compressor wheel confuses expected torque levels in the factory maps.

i have no codes or issues the main reason i had the turbo built was forreliability, the only difference i notice is it seems to continue to pull hardon the longer straights, like when i was goin up the big hills at Road Americaover the summer it kept pulling strong all the way especially on the mainstraight, where before i would notice it slightly start to drop off towards theend of the longer straights. The one thing i do notice is my intercooler seamsto get heat soaked when i do the really hot HPDE events but it may just be that5 30min sessions in 100 degree weather would make any car hot lol or could that be the lack of a tune?
