Couple questions for Terry,

Besides the CAN access on the Stage 2, what else can we expect? Do you think there are going to be additional gains in HP & TQ with the Stage 2?

Also, if we purchase the Stage 1 will there be a way to upgrade to Stage 2 without having to buy the whole thing?

1. Terry said Stage 2 will include support for E85 mixtures. Running straight E85 will probably not be possible as the LPFP cannot flow enough, but mixin 2-3 gallons of E85 with a tank of 91 should yeild around an E30 mixture which he can tune for. Stage 2 will probably also allow for tuning with a downpipe etc.

2. Customers who purchase stage 1 will have an upgrade path to stage 2 without replacing everything. BMS has said their ultimate goal for Stage 2 is to have USB connectivity of the JB device so that firmware can be updated without the need to purchase additional hardware.

Zero. So, surprised you're having issues with the MINI. Once I finalize how we're doing the MT Stage1 tuning I'll borrow an AT for addl testing. Right now most of my MINI time is going in to building the diagnostic tools required.

1) There is nothing firm at all on Stage2. I'd like it to have CAN access & support E85. Beyond that, who knows. We'll see.
2) We generally only allow Stage2 as an upgrade to Stage1 for the first six months to reward those who started with Stage1. And when it does come out as a stand alone kit the price is the same or more as if you had bought Stage1 from the beginning and upgraded it.

I'll be interested in Stage 2 once it becomes available and some consistent dyno numbers have been laid down with it.

The idea of CAN access and USB upgrades has me intrigued. I'm thinking Stage 2 will allow for remote data log tuning? This would be ideal for me as I plan on eventually swapping turbos to a slightly larger, more efficient unit.

Not surprising to me, seeing as BMS is really the only company doing anything with the N18 at the moment (or at least the only one talking with is about it)

Hey guys,

I'll be out of town for a few days but our development car is with Jon @ BMS who will be racking up some miles up on it while I'm gone. We're still in the process of writing all the CAN routines we need for proper in dash gauges/diagnostics, and are also evaluating two methods of accomplishing the 20-30rw Stage1 gains we're after. What we've been testing thus far is similar to the N20 Stage1 tuner. But, I'm also captivated by the idea of a 10 second install/remove product that takes advantage of a specific exploit I've found working with the DME. So it will take a bit of time to flush that out and see where it goes.

Anyway to tide you over I made a short video while testing last night. Unfortunately it came out much lower quality than I expected. But, boost is on the big speedo, and you can see my shift light ticking on in dash at 5900rpm. Under full load I'm seeing around 16.5psi peak in 60 degree weather with the tuning as currently setup. Which you can see in the 2nd or 3rd little run there.

Terry, will this also work on JCW Minis? Or only Cooper S?

Thanks

Very happy to have a self installable/removable tune in the works. I am not going to be mailing my ecu anywhere.

16psi? Please keep massaging.. my 2007 was pushing ~18-19psi 207whp/239wtq and my 2009 JCW was pushing 21-22psi 219whp/267wtq using an access port.

p.s. 267wtq @ 3500 rpm is FUN.

So was that on Stage 1 or custom maps you had on your AP running 18-19lbs of boost?

For Stage1 we're targeting around 16-17psi. We want the reliable and easy to gain horsepower to start. Then with a future Stage2 upgrade we'll work on pushing things higher. Would love to see some boost by RPM curves on the Cobb off the shelf maps if you have it.

I like this idea, extra overhead is always nice.

Any word on projected timeline? A buddy of mine has a juicebox on his 335i and it's awesome. Not that I'm expecting 400hp/400tq on a Mini of course...

I wanted to let everyone know that BMS did have a set of wheel spacers from the BMW world that fit my Countryman. If I am not mistaken, the R60 Countryman shares the same hub size as the F30/F31 2012-2013 3 Series Sedan. I started out ordering a set of 15mm spacers and after a good 80 miles of driving to and from work, I did have some very slight rubbing. I am running 19in JCWs with 225/40 all around with the NM springs. I spoke to Jason tonight @ BMS and he is sending out a set of 12mm spacers. The 15mm spacers really pushed the wheels to the outer edge completely flush with the wheel arches. If I was willing to trim the plastic wheel arch slightly, I am sure they would have worked fine. Also. if I had aftermarket shocks (if anyone made them... I don't want coilovers) that would have helped. Excuse the horrible pics but it was raining. Thanks Jason for all your help tonight!!

Perhaps this would be best for another thread.

They look great. I was really impressed at how much more aggressive the drivers side looked than the passenger side of the CM. I will be ordering some. Since I haven't lowered the car it seems like the 15's would work, but might as well get the 12's in order to give me future options.
