Drivetrain The Always Up-to-Date Thread on Tuning 2011+ (N18) MINIs
RENNtech
So is Lenny planning to come to S.D. That would be AWESOME
I'd much rather have a hands on, dyno assisted, tuner driven tune than any ship away the ECU version.
Hopefully he'd add some training for the HG guys so they'd be the continuing support too.
Keep us updated so we can coordinate it all.
Does anyone else notice that dyno.. after 4.5k flat on its face.. no power..
thats rough and doesnt look like a good tune.
Compare the graphs:

Just look at the difference in their 4.5-6k over the one posted above.
Looks like the N18 just dies after 4.5k and goes flat.. interesting.

An oil cooler is something I've been thinking about. It seems like a good longevity/reliability mod. I was shocked when I saw on my ScanGauge that the oil temps are regularly in the low 200s.
Question is, where do you mount it that it won't get in the way of the FMIC? Especially since I'm going with the TyrolSport FMIC, which covers most of the radiator?

Hujan, Chris Sneed from Sneed Speed addressed this just a couple of days ago HERE
I'm looking forward to them developing an oil cooler that is compatible with a larger FMIC as I have seriously run out of performance mods (not counting extreme crap and wheels). I agree though... cooler is better.
Someone brought up a good point at the motorcross last Saturday. The N18 engines are going to end up rather rare due to the introduction of the new BMW engine and will likely never see a large tuner supper network. Just too few of them to be profitable.
Oh and btw I was gonna use NM as my tuner but after talking to Jerry he said there is still the surging issue. He said he is going to pull the plug on the automatic stage 1 tune as well for us. Oh well, there's always RennTech haha. I will report back after I get this tune. Good luck to the rest of you looking for a tune.
What? Rob made a decision? A historic milestone for him! Lol I'm going RennTech as well, just saving up. Looked it up and they are only an hour away from me. That helped me make my decision pretty quickly lol but before I decided Renntech, I was looking NM stage 2 but I'd rather custom than canned.

RennTech
Just got off the phone with Mark at RennTech regarding an ECS tune for my R60 All4 S automatic.
Mark indicated that their canned tune is the same regardless which mods (e.g. FMIC) are on the car -- which means it doesn't whether I tune first then add the FMIC, or vice versa. Has anyone heard differently from RennTech, i.e. Lenny?
Plus, Mark says they are now offering an FMIC for the R60. Mark wouldn't say who supplies it, but quoted $900. It doesn't show up on their website. Anyone know which FMIC they are selling?

RennTech Dyno Tuning in SoCal
For those of you looking to get a RennTech dyno tune who, like me, have the misfortune of living on the West Coast instead of Florida, I have some potentially exciting news:
HG Motorsports in San Diego has been in touch with RennTech to develop a system to remote dyno tune cars for RennTech from HG's facility in San Diego. I understand from HG they are willing and able to do it, as is RennTech. The only catch is that HG will have to spend a little money to update their software to make it happen.
Because the remote dyno tuning will be MINI-specific, the big question from HG's perspective is how much interest there might be in RennTech dyno tunes among MINI owners within driving distance of their facility.
With that in mind, I thought I would throw this out to all the MINI owners looking for tunes. But for those of us with N18s (especially late-model N18s), a RennTech dyno tune is one of precious few options.
I'd like to gather a few names of interested people who would make the trip to HG Motorsports for a dyno tune. I understand that price is a factor, but if it's something you'd do for a reasonable price, please shoot me a PM or post-up in the thread I started about this.

Unless something has changed recently, the Forge R60 intercooler was designed on a Euro-spec R60 and will not fit the US R60 without significant modification to the crash bumper. (Apparently Forge was unaware when they designed the FMIC that the crash bumper on the Euro-spec R60 is different from the US R60s.)

For the $900, it stands to reason that they're selling the TyrolSport FMIC.
The Forge R60 FMIC will not be re-designed per both their US and UK divisions. Besides, it's fun to shove that huge hunk of FMIC in there - it's like solving a puzzle.

Why is PAW not listed as a vendor for ECU tunes?
I just got off the phone with Luis (PAW owner) and he confirmed he can tune my '12 R60, +25-30hp gain regardless auto or manual transmission. His tune requires an FMIC. $725 plus shipping.
I think I had read somewhere (probably on here) that PAW was somehow linked with RennTech, but Luis said there is no relationship whatsoever between the two companies.

Also don't forget Luis recommends using his spark plugs he provides for $88 total.
So a modded GP2 only makes 226WHP. Just noticed this. A similarly modded MCS can make the same power apparently more tq. I make 250WTQ on an MCS with similar WHP.
I have seen Gen2 JCWs make 250WHP/310WTQ with a few mods. I have seen plenty of JCWs get into the 230-240WHP range with 270-290WTQ.. something seems funny now that I look at it again.
