Drivetrain The Always Up-to-Date Thread on Tuning 2011+ (N18) MINIs
As I have been professing throughout these pages (and please, those of you who have read all of the posts, forgive me for illustrating this again)... There is NO physical way to write to the ECU/DME via the OBD port on the N18. That includes both pre- and post-Feb 2012.
The difference between those two is another physical removal of a JTAG power point, making things even worse.
Again, there is NO physical way, and NO workaround to program the ECU/DME via the OBD on the N18. That's all there is to it.

Now my next question would be: Does this also prevent 'owner' adjustment of 'coding' such as window up control, Euro hazards, etc?
Along with that; what if anything, would an add-on bluetooth transmission system that grabs data for display on an iPhone / iPad be able to do.
Such a system:

I've explained the hardware side of the block in-depth. Feel free to look back at my previous posts regarding those answers. (but you have the general idea, yes)
Coding is a separate issue that accesses the KOMBI/CAS/etc. For more info on that, you can use my thread, or GECKO's thread. We both have everything laid out quite nicely for that. I've been keeping everyone up-to-date with Datens, and everything is running smoothly.
You're straying from this thread's intended purpose on the other questions.

Quick question for those you have the NM tune(my last resort), is their tune for Stage 1 25-30hp and 30-35tq to the wheels or to the crank? Because Jerry told me that I could see anywhere from 200-210whp(93 and 94 octane here). But if someone has a dyno please let me know.

This was a Stage 1 review on an N18 6sp FWD Countryman.

This is a review of Stage 1 vs Stage 2 w/ FMIC on an N14 MCS. I would assume gains would be similar N14 vs. N18.

I have Stage 2 (see sig) on my 2012 MCS and I'm very happy.
Thanks Tony, I've searched everywhere but couldn't find anything.
I talked again yesterday to BrenTuning and now they are out of the question. So ridiculous. Also spoke to RMW today and they said it would be better to wait a little while longer.
I hope that Evolve can tune my car, I am just waiting on the word from them possibly by tomorrow. If not, hello NM, and I will get my tune next month. I mean 32HP/42tq to the wheels is very GOOD.

When I went to Stage 2, I hadn't driven the car in a week because I was gone on vacation. While I was gone I had been driving my girlfriends car cross country, so when I got back into my car it was hard to tell how much of the power was the gain between Stage 1 and 2 versus how much was in my mind being that I had been driving a much slower car for the previous week/2000 miles.
I plan to get my car strapped to a dyno soon to see what it puts down. I'll be sure to post those numbers.
I have a renntech tuned automatic and I don't have to wait til 4000 rpms to feel the power. The peak torque is around 2500 rpms. My car was dyno tuned at their facility so that may be a difference. My dyno chart is in my gallery if you want to see it. I rarely even hit 4000 rpms in normal driving.
He posted it in his gallery -- see here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...0&ref=gnr-prev
Thanks Theta! I'm Lenny from RENNtech/PAW. How's your Countryman running?
Heya Lenny! Actually I just (like 3 minutes ago) sent you both (Luis was attached) an e-mail. If you get a chance, hit me back.
For everybody here reading, though, Lenny has done a great job with my R60 JCW!

In any event, I'm really glad to see you on NAM. You do great work from everything I've heard.
Thanks! I will check the email. The N18 it's a great engine to work with, just need some more engine thermal management update for the mini Big power output increase!
Thanks! Yes, I remember it was a hot & humid day (ambient 90-93f & 40-48% humidity) for Kikk's car...
Hey Lenny. The car runs amazing. Love the way it drives now. About 18000 miles since the tune. No issues at all. I need to bring it back soon since I installed the fmic and will probably have you guys do the downpipe too.
That's a pretty serious increase in torque. Me likey.
m54b25, how much effort is it to do a remote tune with you and a local dyno shop? Would this be something that should be discussed offline?

Hey Lenny,
I am curious about your tune. What is the difference between RennTech and PAW? Thanks, look forward to your answer.
Well I would have to send my ECU out since I live in Michigan. But I have been saying all I want is anywhere from 200-210whp/210-220wtq. My mods are FMIC, Hot side pipe(just bought), Panel Filter, and custom exhaust(2nd cat and resonator delete). Do you think I am able to achieve that or will I have to dyno to get that? Thanks for the quick response Lenny, I tried to PM you but it wouldn't let me.
If it's a highly / customized modified engine for X purpose application & requires more than just dyno, driveability, datalog samples, etc. That would take some X amount of time & test. I preffer them to send me the car.
