Drivetrain If your R56 is dropping boost check this:
Use a deepwell socket to make a handle, if not you will need somethign else.
If your doing the VAG swap you might want to check my results over at https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...bov-valve.html
Read through as i uncovered some interesting yet dissapointing finds regarding the VAG. Not a bad mod or harmful but its going to only make things smoother by slightly leaking internally.

If you can get a 1/4" drive 5mm socket and cut your little L It will work real nice. A 1/4 " drive ratchet and ext. might come in handy as well.
Also you may wish to look at the thread ( Recirulation (DV/BOV) valve ), it might change your mind. Good luck.

SO I have been reading and really want to do this. All I need is the same rev d i had out of my GTI.. correct?
I have been reading about people messing with springs.. do i just use the stock mini dv spring or the rev d spring? Or the alta spring? What is the best way to do this?
$65 shipped for DV
http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/p...oducts_id=3585
Dont know what dealer list is..

The other thread was made after this one... I myself bought the new valve to do a swap but then tested it ebcause somethign didnt look right. It does not hold a perfect seal, leaking small amounts of psi.
Its not a detrimental mod, it will help smoothness but not performance.

I concur with Big, while it does offer an enhanced feeling of smoother shifting, it suffers from performance issues, may cause a P2885 code, Boost Pressure Deviation, which I wasn't too fond of.
I am now using mine as a decorative mantel piece, although I may reinstall it in my old age
. Good luck.

Old age whats that?

The wastegate opens, you wont hear it.
If you hit boost cut you will simply see boost climbing and once it touches 22psi it will be dumped via opening the wastegate until it is vented.
Unless your asking about the vag valve which in that case i have some pictures i drew up around here. The tapered seal leaks internally, the valve itself is not internally air tight to the vag leaks from the pressurized system post compressor>pre compressor which if this is what your referring to then you wont hear it also.

question:
how does OEM DV (newer one) with Alta upgrade spring compares to VAG from daily driving point of view? anybody had a chance to test both of these?
i love how VAG one feels when zipping around town, but on a track i believe i felt the boost loss at higher RPMs, the engine felt flat at 4,000+ RPMs.

I replaced my original diverter valve today with a new OEM DV from MINI.
Here are some pictures: http://s98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...erter%20Valve/
The new DV is on the left. There are some marked differences between the two valves. The spring in the new valve also felt stiffer. Not sure if that's because my old spring was tired.....

Hmmm, this is curious, it looks something like the one WMW has?
I tried the VAG with what I would say mixed results.
I've been considering the Forge DV, kinda spendy, but it looks like a well made piece of work. The idea of the diaphragm or plastic housing on the stock unit going south some day just bothers me a little.
Anyone have any experiance with the Forge?
What are your impressions of the new valve Scott?

So far it seems OK. It's holding boost better than the original DV. I will know more after a couple of days working it out.

Maugre,
I have been using the latest version of the Forge D/V that I bought at Way Motor Works and it WORKS!!!
IMO this is a huge improvement over the OEM part because it seals on O-rings and uses a piston and does'nt depend on a rubber diaphram that tears which is what happened to my OEM D/V. The OEM D/V depends on a spring for part of the actuation motion and the Forge D/V has both a spring and actuation that is controled by pressure/ vaccum in both directions.
This puppy is sounding better all the time, I feel like I'm about to become about $220 poorer.
I have seen that some have said it's a waste of $ if you're looking for more noise, of which I'm not, or OEM's never fail, of which they do.
I'm looking for a performance upgrade and longevity, the fact that these can be had with different pressure springs has me interested. Thanks Octane.

My understanding is that the "new" OEM valve is when MINI decided to use the JCW valve on the MCS (is that correct?) ... but looking at realoem, that looks like it happened way back in 2007 (start of 2008 production?). So maybe my 2009 MCS already has it?
The DV is the original installed DV. My MINI is a May 2007 production. The numbers on the label are as follows:
BWTS 11-07T089
5900 110 7707
7.01115.04 APG
I will have the MINI out for a good run on Monday. I should know for sure it this has killed the boost issue.

How old is your original? (better yet, does it have a part # on it?)
