This is the problem quite a bit...........

Bigprfed22 03-25-2011 09:25 AM

Is that one broken? or just identifying that the DIV cant keep up with high boost levels. Ever since your last tune 19.psi noe if I shift fast from 3rd to 4th sometimes itll get stuck open. i ordered a tougher spring from alta hoping to remedy this, if it still does this i will be getting the forge unit.

Revolution Mini Works 03-25-2011 09:37 AM

This car is stock
I swear Mini put way too much plastic in these cars

phxsteele 03-25-2011 10:00 AM

So what is the solution? I notice from time to time that I loose boost. For example I will be in fourth gear going 50 or 60 and hit the throttle and I will get a quick shot of boost then nothing until I back off and hit it again. Sometimes this will happen a few times for getting full boost back.

I replaced the internals of mine with the internals of the DV from a high output audi A3 rated for 260+ hp, works great now.

Bingo

Bigprfed22 03-25-2011 10:12 AM

Im wondering how much of an improvement will be made with the return spring changed.

brohammer619 03-25-2011 10:27 AM

I replaced the spring with the Alta and can't really tell a difference, however I am not really tracking or racing the car so I'm not a good judge of the valve remaining open or not. What should this theoretically do for my car?

///Mflossin 03-25-2011 10:32 AM

Does anybody have the VAG p/n for the A3 valve?

Bigprfed22 03-25-2011 10:52 AM

When you get back on the gas (after a let off, shifting etc.) the vlave closes quicker. you get power quicker.

The spring alone won't prevent tears of the diaphragm.

how is that one different from way's?

chakraj 03-25-2011 04:55 PM

Ill check the box at home for the part number. Make sure it is for the High Output A3 2.6 engine. I went to the Audi lot, got the vin from a High Output 2.6 and told them I needed the DV for that car. You can not use that DV because of the wiring and a bump on the housing, but the internals swap right in and out.

I changed not just the spring (which is stronger) but also the escutcheon which is a bit more robust and the air channels are a bit larger allowing for a quicker evacuation and recovery.

Awesome guys...many thanks. What's involved in taking one of these apart if you don't mind me asking?

chakraj 03-25-2011 07:14 PM

Once you have it off, that's the hard part, you just pop the whole inside out kind of like taking the top off of a play doh container(best refference I could think of), in a sideways poping motion. Very easy.

clnconcpts 03-25-2011 07:49 PM

English, what the heck is this part?

DjR53 03-25-2011 08:02 PM

would the part from waymotorworks fix this problem?

chakraj 03-25-2011 08:07 PM

I believe their part is the same as on a JCW, I might be wrong?

k-huevo 03-25-2011 08:24 PM

Credit where credit is due; here's how it's done. http://etuners.gr/index.php?s=12&t=2

sooper_cooper 03-25-2011 08:51 PM

Great information. I'm not experiencing this problem yet (at least I don't think I am), but I may order this as an upgrade "mod", so to speak, for the stock JCW part.

chakraj 03-25-2011 09:51 PM

That one looks even more efficient than the one I installed. Makes me want to upgrade again, to bad I'm not the if it's broke dont fix it type.

mellanor 03-26-2011 05:56 PM

I too would like to know whether the Audi version is better or not from the one that Way offers. I don't believe that Way's is the same as the JCW, as he states explicitly that his isn't meant for the JCW.

Awesome!!! Thank you!

killerfox 03-27-2011 06:18 AM

My boost guage is reading 21lbs peak so I guess I will be doing this mod this week. thanks for the info.

thevelourfog 03-27-2011 09:31 AM

This BOV can handle over 30lbs of boost easily, GTI's running over 400 hp use these without any problems. Try to get the "D" version though, the more common "G" has a rubber diaphram which won't last as long under higher boost.
