Questions about the pulley job, Pls help!

Hi folks,

I have a 2003 MCS, 60k miles, and I am getting a Alta 15% pulley and thinking about if necessary to have the ECU tuned at mean time. Also, I want to know how much the pulley job will cost. I would appreciate if someone could recommend me an experienced mechanic around NJ/NYC/Penn area to do the job. Please kindly post your thought here, and many many thanks in advance!!

P.S. I installed the ALTA CAI by myself today, the blowing sound really sexy up my babe!! Woohooo!!

Pulley job should cost around $300, someone correct me if i am wrong.
That being said, If you installed the CAI, which is much easier than a pulley. Maybe you should think about getting a buddy and try to do the pulley install yourself. It is actually pretty easy. all you need is a pulley puller, which Alta will let you rent one from them for free if you bought a Pulley from them.

But is where i would go if i lived in jersey
Helix is the best but might be to far of a drive for you

doing the pulley job isn't so bad. I'd say do it yourself. saves a lot of money. I got quotes from 80 bucks to 500 bucks. So for me, it was worth it to just do it myself.

unfortunatley i sold the puller a month or so ago. a couple other guys in my area decided to set up a pulley party, and a shop was gonna do them all for 80 each. But for me, the 80 bucks wasn't even worth it. thats two tanks of gas lol.

damn. thanks anyways. sorry for the threadjack op, but let this be a lesson to you, rent a puller, or be prepared to pay 300 for everything.

everywhere ive called so far has quoted me 250-350.

Bring your pulley up to the tune, get there early, and get your tune at the same time.

I did mine this last weekend, and have been trying to figure out what to do with the craven puller. if you want to do it yourself. it's really pretty easy. I can offer a walk through. as it's fresh on my mind.

Here is a walkthrough I found "after" I did mine. I started it myself and got stuck so I called a buddy who had already done his, he came over, then I felt stupid for how easy it was.

there are just a few "gotchas" that I can assist with if you decide to do it yourself.

Thanks, Sidmind, Very useful link! Just still not that confidence to do it myself for this. Is Alta really rent out the puller? I need to figure out how to get those tools i need. Thanks for the post, and I need your walk through once I decide to do it.
