Long Term Affects of the 15% Pulley

I searched the forum on what mods to get with the 15% pulley & I am leaning to the ALTA kit here & a cold air intake system.

http://www.altaperformance.com/produ...ce-Package-15-

I am planning on installing this on a 03 MCS with approx 70K on the dial. I would also like to keep the OEM exhaust for noise reasons. This will be a daily driver.

Have you guys with the higher milage MINI's had any issues with this kind of set up?

TIA

If you want the oem exaust to keep the noise level down, you might want to reconsider your choice of CAI...the Alta is the loudest!!
The 15% has proven safe....many are doing a 17%, bit more aggressive, but IMO perfect for a nontracked DD.

That's the same pulley kit I'm running on a 02 MCS with over 70K and no issues. It's a well balanced kit and does what it claims.

I personally like CAIs that use K&N filters. I may be old school but if you go to your local SCCA track and look under the hood almost everyone uses K&N. As one Porsche guy told me, "they trust K&N under the worst of conditions." You don't see hardly anyone using foam filters. MiniMania has a CAI branded as Ultrik that works well. I also run Borla "street" exhaust. It's just slightly louder than the JCW exhaust, but you can hardly hear a difference in the cabin. But the sound you can hear is sweet . You won't add that much more power with a replacement exhaust, but if you do a CAI and exhaust upgrade with the pulley kit your car will never be the same.

The long-term effects are more power, torque, s/c whine, fun, thrills and smiles. The only negative effect I can think of is that you will loose a couple of MPG, but I don't think that's the end of the world.

The only neg. longterm effect could be your face hurting from smiling so much. The 15% pulley has been around for a long time and there are a ton of people that have put over 100k on a pulley without problems. Not to say superchargers don't fail, If they are going to fail they fail with or without a pulley.

You should check out our Pulley kit, it has everything you need and nothing you don't.

I've heard great things about WMW rebuilt superchargers. Keep up the good work!

I can't wait to get one of these. I promised myself that I'd wait 'til Ruffian is paid off (early '11) before I start to mod, but once I do this is at the top of my list!

Is there any issues passing a state inspection with one of these installed?

Not a problem, inspectors don't know to look for it.

Even if they did, its NOT tampering with an emissions device and it does not cause a check engine light. You will be happy with it, really

I agree. If theyre gonna fail they will do it with or with out. That being said i got Way's kit, and installed it. Then My blower died . Rebuilt it my self still using Ways stuff and couldnt be happier!. I even picked up a little more boost after the rebuild!

15% pulley def doesn't hurt anything, anything higher that's a different story. I put mine on at about 30k miles, currently at 145k and no issues w/ the supercharger or driveability. Only thing is you might want to change to Iridium plugs with a colder heat range from stock.

Nice to see that many miles without trouble. I don't care for the Iridium plugs, the stock style 4 prong plug burns much better and won't foul. The colder heat range from NGK is BKR7EQUP. I stock these, btw.

Long Term Affects of the 15% Pulley

Almost the same as long term effect of a JCW package (I think that's about a 11-12% pulley).

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I am going to do it. I purchased my 03 MCS with 74K on the dial and it may be time for a little help and maintenance under the hood.
I was thinking this:
-Fluids: Oil, Tranny, Etc.

-WMW Pulley Kit = http://www.waymotorworks.com/wmw-pulley-package.html

-WMW Ignition Package = http://www.waymotorworks.com/wmw-ignition-package.html

-A drop in K&N Filter

Do you think I need a new belt tensioner?

I was thinking about an intake but I really want to keep it quiet. Any thoughts?

Anything I am missing?

TIA

Belt tensioner is included in Way's pulley kit. I have an Alta CAI that I really like, however it is much louder than OEM. After you install these packages, you may consider a tune. Then you can start concentrating on your suspension. It never ends!!!!!

Sounds like the modding bug has bit another!!
The WMW kit has a tennsioner stop... It prevents$$$ dammage should the belt fail...the actual tennsioner is good untill it fails...when, who knows...some folks replace them around 75-80,000 miles in a premptevice strike, in hopes of increasing reliability....to do it or no to do it if it looks good is a personal choice...the tennsioners run about $180 or so I think...
The drop in filter is a good way to get a bit of power, and keep the car quiet...the stock intake is still restrictive...so for a bit more $$, you can do better with one of several intakes, but the drop in is pretty cheap...

PS...be sure to use the correct fluids....
The PS fluid is pretty special. Do not us ATF/PS fluid, it will be a very $$ mistake!! The exact brand/type is posted, and is available in many import shops, online, and some VW dealers too....
