Finished up a project I have wanted done for quite some time now

We finished up digitizing the engine bay of the car today which will now allow fast prototyping of new parts for our cars.

Here is a video of the process and how it works. It will allow you to make parts with rapid prototypes or castings very quickly

Thats cool Jan.

Is it a purely automated process or does it require manual interaction. Digitized geometry is always the way to go. I suspect you have to have very close tolerances with the data.

as you can see with the picture the laser scanner was run over the block and back of the radiator shroud etc. This makes a 3D image in the software which has all of the data points. Over 8million just on the one screen shot
Now it can be put into a program to design parts that will fit perfectly to the attachment points of the block etc

Rapid prototyping FTW.
We had one available for us for our senior design projects last year, they proved very useful.
A friend made a turbine housing shroud for a NASA space suit cooling fan for his projcet.

Its awesome for fluid/flow analysis of new parts too
