Drivetrain The Official ALTA AccessPORT Thread
I live in Utah.. I have like no idea who to go to for tuning. I know Jim Conforti lives like 40 mins from me, but i dont know what he does as far as R56 tuning.
I have yet to see anyone locally who can dyno tune my mini. Which has led me to wanting such a tool like the accessport. Obviously being at 4500ft a dyno tune would give me the greatest gains, etc. Sounds like jan is the only one who can do that.
If you where I can get a decent tune with 500 miles of me I would be quite happy. Almost temps me to drive up to oregon and have you guys tune it
hahaha.
I would love to have an E85 and a 100 octane tune on my car as i do a lot of track days and 100 octane would rock and E85 is growing quite popular.

We have mapping compatible with the Utah fuel and altitude. So no worries there and no reason to drive 500 miles to visit us (as much as we would love to help and meet you in person!)
Please let me know if I can help!

Would I like to have the pop and burble. Sure why not!
Right now I am just enjoying the extra power and fun of my 2008 MCS. If I want pop and burble and just make the sounds my self. The only problem is my dog looks at me funny

The pop and burble is something that is programmed into JCW and we are not able to replicate this to the same degree as JCW comes programmed. This isn't just a map in the JCW ECU that is different, it's a plethora of maps and logic that is different.
The way we have replicated this causes drivability issues in some instances, and we don't feel that it is perfected yet. As we have mentioned before, we have replicated it by retarding the timing a lot in the timing maps, which causes a backfire, but during certain driving conditions, this retarded timing causes poor drivability. This happens at light loads when you start to get back on the gas.
This is not something that is going to apply to automatic customers as there's no lifting of the throttle to shift like on a manual car.
We haven't forgotten about the pop and burble, but this will require a lot more effort than just some timing changes in the map, that's why it's taking so long, sorry!

Thanks Adam, we will be in touch soon as I am getting the last of my bolt ons put on. Then itll be time to get a tune on. I would love to get a few different maps for different fuels and driving styles.
Claus,
You're right in the middle of two shops that can tune for you. COBB in LA and COBB/Surgeline in Oregon. Currently, there aren't any shops in Northern California that can tune for the AccessPORT.

Chris, are you getting any closer on the 2011 tunes? And what could I expect to gain with a stock tune and your water/meth injection setup since you said previously that you do not have a tune for the water/meth? Or am I confused (which happens alot!).
Just to cast my vote, I don't reall care about the pop and burble. I've had the AP for about a month now and really like it. I also have the poblem with the fluctuating idle. I'll try to capture a log, but don't really have much time do log.

Did you--
follow the instructions and sync it first on your PC before hooking it up to the OBDII port? From prior posts I don't think it works if you just plug it into the car first thing. I followed the basic instructions, which while a bit cryptic in a few places, went fine and I was off and running.
I believe Agarwaen has it!
After you have updated the AP on the computer, plug it into the OBD port, push in the fob and press the start botton once without foot on clutch or brake to wake up the car. AP then does it's thing, good luck.

So Much Power
I have had the AP for a few months now, and it has been great fun. Still havent gotten over the amount of power it has.
recently had the car in for some work, and after 9000 miles on my car (about 6500 w/ AP) my tires need to be replaced. Sounds like it is time for some new wheels as well
Hopefully the ones I have can last the summer, so I can get the New Front Mount before the wheels.
Thanks Alta for such great product!

The "on" position is on the car. I had the key fob pushed in and the radio had power etc, but that is not technically the "on" position. You have to actually press the on button without your foot on the clutch, or brake(auto), so the car doesn't start but has full power.
The alta site had a good tip of how to know you were in the "on" position. If your gas gauge is lit up you are "on".
Hope that helps.
Can't wait to drive to work

To Chris... I updated my AP and now the clear code option on the troubleshooting menu doesnt work... it just jumps back up to the reset ecu option. The center button works on other options but not to clear codes????
Thanks again!
Ray, did you update the AccessPORT with the beta or the normal update? Are you sure that the ECU is in the ON position? First try it again and see if it does it again. If it's still doing it, try the other update that you didn't do to see if that changes anything. Do you have a CEL?
Chris - So even though Driving Ambition in Sacramento does COBB tuning, they cannot work on the AccessPORT? Just wondering as my SC'd S2000 was tuned by Shad and he does great work on S2000s, NSX's, and Miatas with FI. Would be interested to know if he can work on my new JCW with your AccessPORT that I bought.
Greg Davis,
Check Adam's post on the previous page, it will take some time for the 2011, thanks!
My mods are in my signature. Im running your stage 3 tps map for 92 or better. Because my car has cams and a bigger turbo i often throw CELs most of which i leave because they are misfire codes from the cams. those dont put the car into limp mode. i do however throw a couple codes for charging pressure min or max which put the car into limp so i use the AP to clear them. I plugged the AP up to my PC and opened the Cobb AP Manager and hit check for updates. the AP did its thing and i put it back in the car. I threw a code pulled the AP out to clear it and when i got to the clear codes option it wouldnt work. when i push the center button to clear it jumps up to the reset ecu option. the center button works on the other menus so i think its a minor firmware glitch but im not sure how to remedy it.
EDIT: Uploaded beta firmware and it fixed the problem
thanks for being so responsive. Can you guys build me a custom map. Jan at RMW has proven to be unreliable. I would really like to have my car dialed in. Thanks again...

"I definitely agree about the AccessPORT. I'm running the stage 3 tune and it's insane."
That was a response to one of my posts in a different thread. I asked him what mods he had, and he said he had a number on order, but his JCW sounded stock at this point.
My question is:
I have a stock factory JCW (2009 / June 2008 build). I added the airbox from the JCW dealer installed kit (large cone replacing the flat panel of the factory JCW). I'm putting in the Alta BOV spring upgrade on Monday.
I currently run the 92 Octane Stage 1 map for my JCW. With my current mods (nothing much really), what would happen if I ran a Stage 2 or Stage 3 map? Is there any benefit - or, should I continue to run the Stage 1 map? I'm perfectly content at the moment, and the car is really fast, so I'm inclined to leave it where it currently is. I'm just curious what running the other maps does.
Thanks
