ALTA,

One of the map options I understand you were working on was (in my case) a Stage I map for 92 octane or better with the Sport Buttom set up for "Linear Throttle Settings and the Sport Mode making more power".

When do you expect a map like this to be available?

I'd caution against ignoring it. I trust this site, but a popular distribution method these days is through advertisements. Even the New York Times was spewing malware a year or so ago because of an ad that got in their rotation. And you didn't have to do anything more than load the page to get infected. I assume something similar is going on here. Hell, the only reason I'm posting is because I'm using my phone and it's not a likely target for such things (yet).

But yeah, feedback forum... didn't realize there was one. Moving there now.

I have been following this thread since it started and I am very excited about the AP but the only thing holding me back right now is that I think this will have a negative effect on the longevity/reliability of the engine. Am I right in this thinking?

It could but lots of factors involved so hard to say for sure. A lot will depend on how hard you push it as well.

Great question.

Great question.
Anytime you push a machine outside of it's designed operating envelope you can expect to put increased wear on it and shorten its lifespan.

That said, take care of it and I'm sure you'll have no issues during the lifetime that you plan to keep the car (which I'm assuming is not longer than 100k miles anyway).

20psi is too fun to not take the plunge and enjoy it

My main concern would be premature turbo failure due to the increased psi.

My 46,000 mile stock K03 has been running 18+psi for over a year and a half (and I promise you it saw 18+ psi everytime I drove it)...and when I took it off last week, it had 0 shaft play.

You are not going to see a turbo failure in the amount of time that you own the car, unless of course you follow MINI's oil change interval. Be diligent about 5k mi oil changes with good synthetic (im a M1 0w-40 fan) and follow proper warm up and cool downs and you will have 0 issues.

Thanks folks for all the comments, praise and questions.

The turbo, engine, clutch etc. will all last for a very long time, assuming you drive it in a reasonable manner.

The turbo is not going to be damaged by the increase in boost. You can't over rev it as we are working within the compressor map of the turbo.

The engine has been tested to higher HP than we are pushing. But yes you are working it harder than stock. Safe AFR's will help keep it in shape (as we do), but there is some risk, albeit very small.

Clutch / trans: if you drive like an idiot, the clutch isn't going to last. 5K clutch sidesteps, repeatedly are going to either break or damage one or both. Drive prudently and you minimize this risk tremendously.

So I hope that helps! The car is very safe with the tune we provide is designed to increase HP, TRQ and not cut short the lifetime of the powertrain.

Thanks again NAM!

Yes and no.

Through Friday the 15th, if you have an Automatic or require 91 octane mapping, then yes they are $795.

For 92+ and/or 6-spd cars, they are $895.

Thanks for asking and let me know how I can help further!

quick question for you all...
I'm planning on adding an intercooler fairly soon.
I was wondering if anybody has upgraded from an Alta Stage 2 tune to an Alta Stage 3 tune after an intercooler upgrade? Is there a significant performance increase between the two? Any graphs/dynos between the two?

thanks for the help!

DJ, The difference from stage 2 to stage 3 is huge! The difference is about 20-30 FT LBS and 20-25 WHP. Here is a dyno sheet with stage 2 and another showing the power with stage 3.

Nick, thanks a lot! i'll be waiting apprehensively for your results

Holy moly chris, you're not lying. That IS a pretty big difference. Initially, i was expecting the addition of intercooler and stage 3 tune to only bump up the top end horsepower by a bit, did not realize the amount of torque gained as well! looks like i'll be ordering an intercooler as my next mod
