Good Morning.....

I know that a lot of you have desire to get a more indepth answer to some complicated questions regarding the
M7 Plasma Booster. I have contacted the inventor of the PB Ulf Ahrens and invited him to come on this forum
to explain some of these questions that I can not provide directly.

Sincerely
Peter Horvath

What I would like to know is what effect if any the Plasma Booster has on waste spark ignition systems as the MINI Cooper has on it. Each coil is firing two plugs, does that make the Plasma Booster less efficient?

Thank you very much Peter.

Would it be a good idea to start creating a list of honest questions for Ulf about the PB from basic to complicated?
By the way, this is a really good test of how we members and vendors on NAM can show how we can have a sane but lively discussion be it technical or otherwise.

I for one am putting on my "best behavior hat" right now and look forward to some great answers and equally great discussion. Thanks all.

That's a great idea. I would also like know how the Plasma Booster compares with Direct Hits ignition System.

Everyone,
I spoke with Peter this morning and recommended that he post this thread. He has emailed Ulf and is waiting for him to get back in touch so that he may come and provide follow up to the questions you have. As such please be patient...not everyone operates on NAM time. In the meantime please add your specific questions to this thread so that Ulf will have the opportunity to field them.

Thanks

Mark

This thread has been edited.

Going forward please only post to the thread with your question for Ulf Ahrens at Ignition Solutions.

That way, per minihune's excellent suggestion, all the questions can be grouped in one place and it will be easier for Ulf to address the concerns

Dave

Ulf, thank you for answering these questions. I understand that the spark created by the coil jumps the gap of the spark plug causing combustion of the fuel air mixture. I run a 40,000 volt coil allowing me to open the gap of the plug significantly which exposes more of the fuel air mixture creating a larger combustion kernel. Does your Plasma Booster increase the thickness of the spark by increasing the amps? What is the advantage of multiple sparks after initial combustion? It would seem that after the first spark the fuel air mixture would not be close enough to the second and following sparks to add any furthur ignition effect. Clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ulf,

What is the patent application number for this product, and how can
we obtain a copy of the claims made in the patent.

If the PB reduces the peak primary voltage compared to the OEM system for the
initial spark, how can it create a higher current spark?
This reduction is documented on the ignitionsolutions website.

Does it really make sense to measure peak-to-peak spark current since
this is really just two separate sparks one after another?

Do you claim an increase in HP and torque, or just "Smoothness".
What increase in HP and torque do you claim?

Ulf,

Thank you in anticipation of your answers. Please address these issues:

1) High instantanious peak current spark energy as different from open circuit voltage potential and your ignition system.

2) Multiple sparks in the "plasma" or "sustaining spark" phase of the ignition cycle relative to your ignition system.

Regards,
John Petrich in Seattle

1. Even though the initial voltage is lower per the graph, does the faster ramp and faster dropoff collapse the field quicker, generating the more powerful spark?

2. Does the lower resulting value after the faster dropoff contribute to the efficiency?

3. Are the pulses after that to condition the signal?

4. Are you doing any pulse shaping?

5. Are you doing any filtering?

One more...

6. How does your system compare to something like the DirectIgnition product, which uses inline capacitors?

Nearly every one I have seen shows a modest gain, but a gain nonetheless... including Randy from Webb Motorsports, StangNet, and a few others...

This thread has been edited to remove the discussion of palindromes. If you want to have a discussion on that subject, post here.

Again, we're going to keep this thread focused on specific questions for Ulf.

Thanks,
Dave

Hey, every thing I have read in this thread is great - with editing - to this point. I have failed to see one answer to any questions at all. Could we like have some answers, not just questions. If you have the flu that's not good but , it doesn't stop you from saying - I will get back to you later or something! Hope you get better soon and I really mean that!!!!!

Hey -Yes this is from good old AL
I have got some PMs to my last post I have to respond to. I will just say this. A thread serves no purpose in my opinion if their are no responds to it. If someone wants to buy this product it's their money. Saying negative things about a sponsors product in this forum serves no purpose as for as I'm concerned. I have never said anything negative about this product or the inventor. Said!!!!
Charles

Everyone - I checked with Peter and Ulf is still very sick (probably another victim of the flu). Other contacts within Ignition Solutions have promised that as soon as Ulf is able he will reply to the above questions. Please be patient.

Thanks!

If he had the same flu I had, it's pretty nasty. I stayed home for 2 days with a 101F+ temperature. I'm sure I have a time-vs-temp graph around here somewhere.

It's not really influenza unless you can show us copies of cultures from a certified lab. Please post the lab report and a doctor's note.
