OS Giken Single Plate Clutch torque specs

Hi all
I'm busy having this installed.

The installation manual calls for the clutch cover bolts to be tightened to 3.5 kg.m ... that's about 22 ft-lb.
The installer used this setting and some of the bolts stretched badly, and one snapped...Luckily he stopped when this happened.

Has anyone had a similar experience? These specs are for the single plate clutch, the double plate has lower specs (can't remember exactly what, but closer to OEM numbers)

We'll be getting new bolts and will tighten them to the OEM specs - and use some loctite blue...I guess the spec is so high because the clutch spring is a lot stiffer than stock and they're afraid the cover will work itself loose -> but if the bolts supplied can't handle the spec'd torque, what am I to do...?

Any thoughts?

Btw, seeing my poor car with its entire front-end and engine removed is the scariest thing I've seen in a long time

I would give Giken US a call.

Why did they have to remove your motor . If you are just getting your clutch installed they didn't need to pull the motor .

Will do.
I think there's one of two ways of doing the clutch install.
Remove the transmission...or drop the engine and then take off the transmission...

Hii all

Just spoke to Giken USA - they will be sending me new bolts.

Very important if you ever install this clutch - apparently the Mini's clutch design is more like the multi-plate design...

You have to use the multi-plate torque specs (1.8 kg-m). This is straight from Giken USA.

They dont use the stock M9 bolts do they? if so..then 13 is right. I say this only because ACT uses the stock M9 bolts, however they send M8 bolts with it, and I had a similar issue...had to order the M9 bolts from the Dealer as I couldnt source any M9 bolts anywhere.

Oh and taking the engine out with the transmission still attached is 10x easier to pull and re-install, at least for me. I can do it under 2 hours by myself, but then again I have set my hardware up for quick release..lol

i would love to see how you do this... cause im tryign to wrap my head around removing the bumper radiator aux fan assy and all the other engine bits, rolling it out the front removing the tranny replacign the clutch, and putting it all back in 2 hours. I would love to see a video of this because it would be beast

I didnt say put back in, in 2 hours! lol just taken out. The front end is so easy to take off and you guys dont have a front mount intercooler that runs through the stock bumper mounts.

Its all repetative, do something enough times, and it becomes easy. I can tell you how and where all the electrical connectors go and how to route the wires, as well as coolant lines and most dont even have 4 additional oil lines to work around. I designed it to come apart easily over time as I got tired of taken the downpipe off, then the turbo and so forth...now its configured to come out with minimal removal of hard componets....the only thing that takes me a little bit of time is popping out the lower control arms to pull the axels out and that is only cuz I wont use a bushing fork as they destroy more bushings then its worth.

Here are two pix I took yesterday after I pulled it yet again.

Are they going to send you OEM bolts or special bolts for the OS?

Isn't the OEM bolt enough? Just want to know if I buy it later on.

The clutch cover bolts are very different, this is not an average clutch.

Yes, no AC forgot about that one....but you can peal it back out of the way...

well good on OS for not using the standard OEM bolt size unlike ACT. I have the FX600 sittin in my shop and it looks very similar to this one. Nice machine work, but damn if it didnt work.
