I'm getting curiouser and curiouser about this 1st gear limiter stuff. Jan put his custom tune on mine back in March and since then the only "limiter" I've seen is the one that kicks in at 6750rpm in any gear. Are you guys talking about the canned tune by chance? Whatever, I ain't fooling with mine 'cause I'm liking it just the way it is. A trusted friend just confirmed my opinion on Jan's tune and laughingly asked if I'd put a V8 under the hood!

I got my tune(and dynoed in person with Jan) in July and it dumps boost in 1st.
I also like my tune how it is and am going to wait until Jan "officially" announces the updates to his tune.

. 1/4 times and trap speeds are a pretty good indicator of horsepower. Well time is a good indicator of the driver and MPH is a good indicator of horsepower, it usually doesn't lie either.I've wanted to ever since I got the tune, but refused to go because I didn't want to embarrass myself with people seeing me take off in first

Sometime this week I'm meeting up with Jan to try some new stuff and we will play with the car all day and make sure all the kinks and stuff are out for you guys
No problemo? I know you are busy but I've sent 4 or 5 emails over the past nine days and haven't gotten a response to my request for an updated tune.
I just received a updated file from Jan last night. It took him a few days to get back to me. I have yet to upload it to the car. I hope to see the 1st gear to be back like is used to be and the rpms smooth through the powerband.
We will see...

Out of curiosity, when did you email him requesting the update?
My .02....please bear with my analogy below...there is method to my madness....
I have found the best way to get a reply from Jan is early to mid week, when he's not track side with some team. Generally I hear back from him within 2 or 3 days after I inquire on something. The updated map I got last Friday, I requested info for on the Wednesday two days prior. This is my second or third map. Each time it's gotten just a tad better and stronger. It give's me time in between to flog on it and report back. He may not reply much in return, but he is listening. I didn't jump on this tune for acoustic reasons. I jumped on it because of Jans background and knowing (since he was one of the firsts) it would be a work in progress. Mysphit is a project car...and he will get better and better as time goes. Learn to drive the car, improve it a little more, learn to drive the car, improve it a little more...etc., etc. I come from tracking rear wheel drivers, although the principle and physics are similar, fwd characteristics are different. Spend some time worrying about the driver mod.....if you've never done a track weekend or autocross...it's quite humbling for a large % of people. I've dealt with some pretty friggin cocky first time folks that thought they were much better and faster than they really were. I've been doing this awhile a still have a long way to go. There's always, always, always someone out there that can show/teach you something and will be faster and better than you. I'm OK with that. It's part of the learning process and the same kinda thing we are dealing with on this RMW tune(s). Jan knows tuning better than I do. Principles are the same as they are for BMW's and Porcshe's but with the MINI he's learning the characteristics as well.
Yes, it would be nice if RMW's website was up to date and Jan was a little better with communication, especially with those of us running his wares, but damn boys and girls.....we're near the end of the points crunch for the race teams...he's a little busy...... I invite you to go spend just one race weekend in a paddock/pit with a race team (ask.....you'd be surprised how many welcome help), and be a part of the controlled chaos that makes the sport such a rush for those entrenched in it. Then multiply that rush from the entire pre to post race season......it's an insane schedule and the hours, time, and stress involved suck. But, it's his job. And yes, as a matter of fact I have...I spent a weekend with SpeedSource at Barber a few years back for a Grand Am weekend....and had some friends of mine do it for ROAR Racing at Daytona as well. It's pretty damn cool but it can beat you down.
I really don't believe Jan has or is intentionally gonna leave anyone high and dry with his wares. He has a job that takes a lot of of his time. And, he's doing all of this, for all of us that are supporting his tune and work, alone.......
I for one, am all over him taking his time to slowly wring it out over time as tested, tried, and true...
I'm diggin' my tune...
Patience grasshoppers.......

1st is definitely stronger, (wish i had a boost gauge right now), but it definitely does not feel like full boost vs 2nd and 3rd gear.
I know gearing will make it feel different between gears and its hard to compare, but you can tell when boost is being dumped... the exhaust and intake gets louder but your car will not have the matching acceleration to it. Thus its sucking air in, Exhaust is expelling gasses, turbine is spinning, but boost built is being dumped, aka not being fed into the engine to produce power.
Mind you, it is definitely at least a 50% increase from original boost limiting from before, but like others have said, with 235+ ft lbs tq at the WHEELS, a fwd should be shredding tires if WOT in first (without dumping the clutch that is) My .02

I requested an updated map file last Tuesday, August 17th and have sent several follow up requests since then. I know Jan is busy but it is starting look like he is ignoring me...maybe because I also have the ALTA tune and have posted about my experiences with it?? I hope I'm wrong.
Jan, please respond to my emails so I do not have to bring things here. I will if I have to, but I don't want to.
I enjoyed your company when you came up to tune for us. You seemed to be a good guy. You do a great job tuning. This doesn't need/have to get ugly.
I'd rather not have to discuss this in the forum but it seems like Jan is leaving me no other choice.
I've always been respectful of Jan/RMW in all of my posts/emails, cause as I've said, he did a great job with the tune. But apparently I can't say good things about a competitor either.
Mr. GI,
I doubt he's ignoring you. I doubt the fact you have the other tuning item bothers him either. If he's smart, and I have no reason to believe otherwise, he will take all the feedback about all the tunes from all over this board and other forums I'm sure he trolls (when/if he has time), and run with it.
I understand your irritation.....honey man, honey.....
If you need someone just to vent/bounce off on, PM me....I'm OK with that.

He's not ignoring you, he's just not responding. There is a difference, at least thats what I tell my wife.

Thanks for the offer!

Hmmm....interesting....you stated you requested an updated map file last Wednesday and received it last Friday. JAS76 stated he got an updated map file last night after a "few days" for Jan to send it.

Sorry but I'm a bit confused, if your so happy with the Accessport and the tune Alta provided you with as you have said elsewhere here on NAM, what are you wanting him to update as your now running another tune? Why are you wanting or in such need to get an update from Jan on your old RMW tune??

Can understand that. From your other post it just sounded like you were involved with Alta and Accessport more than just a customer? I'm positive Jan will make sure you get everything you paid for as he always has for me!!
