I'm just a customer of ALTA's. I have been helping them work the kinks out of their tune for automatic transmissions. ALTA donated dyno time and initially loaned me an AP device to get my feedback on the tune and device, but I have since purchased their tool from them. Nothing more. Just as I'm also a customer of Jan's.

Pretty cool, how did you help them work the kinks out on the auto exactly, I've got a stick but heard the auto was tougher?

Just by providing data logs and giving them feedback on the drivability of the tune. I don't know if it is tougher as I'm not the one tweaking the map files. I think they've only been working on fine tuning the auto specific maps for about 5-6 weeks now.

Jan just posted how he's getting 400whp off a supercharger in the first gen forum. Within the last 10 minutes.

everyone needs to calm down and take a breather

I've picked cars with different software versions, JCW and S to test maps on
I have over 150 cars to update.........I'm not going to update 150 maps numerous times. We are doing short term testing and when I'm satisfied I will continue updating more tunes. I'm going as fast as I can. I was up working at 3am again this morning. If you have been following we have Nationals coming up again, Grand Am cars to get ready. My 2 supercharger kits that I am releasing and other projects I'm working on. I apologize if you feel offended. I'm doing my best. thanks for listening

DO IT!! I just put the DoS CAI on my MCS with the custom tune and it will drive away from a factory JCW. Pulling lots of outside air into the engine will help any car. I'll bet Jan says the same thing.

I'm pretty sure Jan would say a CAI is a waste of money actually.

Yeah it's been documented a lot on this site that Jan recommends the stock airbox over an aftermarket one. He told me to just stick with the stock airbox, the JCW factory exhaust, and get a better intercooler and call it good. I admit the DoS CAI does sound pretty sweet, so if you love the sound and have the money then by all means do what you want. But don't expect any more gains from a CAI.

Edit: Oh, and since you already have a factory JCW then all you'd really need is a better intercooler. If I had a JCW that's what I'd do, and then save the rest of my money for all the new tires I'd have to get.

Yep, he recommends stock box. With my my MCS being my daily driver I pulled my Alta CAI off and went back to stock after I got the tune. (although it sounded aggressive it started to get annoying on my hour 1 way commute)

I love the DoS intake. I had the NM Engineering intake on my JCW for a while but pulled it off after hearing and seeing the DoS intake on a fellow NAMers JCW. Its loud and wicked and I never get tired of it.

Just because I am running the ALTA tune now does not mean I will always be running it if Jan comes out without something better.

Exactly!

I've been debating whether or not I should post this but it is getting the better of me. For those that are wondering, I still don't have an updated map file from Jan. His response was that it isn't feasible for him to be constantly updating 150+ tune files until he has the tune finalized and that I need to be patient, especially if I'm already happy with my ALTA tune. The funny thing is, I wasn't asking him to update 150+ tunes, I only asked him to update mine.

My stance is he should NOT have posted this if he didn't want to update tune files before he had the tune finalized. Apparently it is a problemo.......

Captain Obvious here...

One would think that if you're working so closely with Alta helping them develop their tune you wouldn't be so desperate for updates from Jan.

Maybe Jan just doesn't want you running over to Alta so they can download his tune every time he makes an update. Seriously, the way you're hounding for updates when most of Jan's loyal customers haven't even gotten one yet, it's like you're on their payroll or something.

.... or maybe he's just as busy as he says he is being that it's the height of racing season and working with race teams is a significant part of his (one-man) business.

Very funny indeed! I'm not on anyone's payroll except my local employer in Eugene which is not in the automotive industry. I simply want to be treated like other paying customers of RMW. As I said, he should not have posted that he will update the tune unless he really meant it. I just want to hold him to his word and get my money's worth out of my tune.

Also, ALTA did not "dowload" my RMW tune. They do not to have to steal someone else's intellectual property.

I am part of a multi MINI family. Once I'm finally happy with Jan's tune, I'll probably keep it on my MINI and put the ALTA tune on my wife's Clubman.

Oh, but I forget I am. We all have to wait since Jan is spread so thin. And to reiterate, I am not "desperate" for an update from Jan. But I feel he should follow through with his announcements. I've been in the customer service industry for 25+ years. You need to uphold your promises in order to truly thrive.

EDIT: Telling your customers to contact you for an upgrade and then not following through on providing said upgrade is NOT good customer service. That is all I wanted to point out in my posts. Again, as I've said, Jan's tune provides great power, but he is spread way to thin for everything he is trying to do. Maybe it is time for him to think about getting additional help?

EDIT #2: It would please me to no end to have the RMW tune to have the same low/mid range hp/torque, the ability to remove CELs and the P&B effect in the exhaust so I could then use the AP device on my wife's Clubman and truly get the most out of the $$$ I've spent on the various tunes. Being treated as the red-headed-step-child because I've also invested in a competitive product just doesn't sit well with me. I'd be more than happy to help Jan fine tune his tune if offered by offering direct honest feedback. I never have been "brand" conscious. I truly enjoyed having Jan in town for the tune party I organized. Say all you want, I am tired with defending my customer service position and I'll wait until Jan releases his final tune. I'm just hoping at that point that he will in fact update my tune as he has been unwilling to update it with his recent advancements even though he said "no problemo"..... Time will tell.

At the very least sitting atop a fence with one foot on either side can be not only painful but a precarious position indeed....

FWIW, when I switched from open ram intake [alta] (tuned with this setup) back to my stock box, my car reacted very poorly to it. Almost as though the stock box was a foreign object to the car. MPG went from 28mpg to 22 for whatever reason (MAF was cleaned thoroughly), left on for 1k miles at the least and no ecu adjustment to improve it. I went back to a dryflow filter [aem] as I felt too much oil was getting into my intake tract, and since then mpg has gone back up to 27.5-28. Hard to say, but I 'felt' a power difference too, open intake being more powerful. I said its hard to say because with the open intake its louder, on the intake side as well as my exhaust, so it may just sound like its accelerating harder/faster.

In my opinion, there is a larger volume of air going into the engine with a less restrictive filter (open filter that is than a stock paper filter), and if the engine was tuned to see/expect larger volumes of air, more power could be produced on the dyno. While the ecu should adjust to the stock box, if its a lower volume, theres less fuel being mixed (theoretically) into the mixture, as the AFR was adjusted in the tune. So yes, the open intake may provide higher temps of air, theres a larger volume than with stock, and I think that compensates the difference.

For the mpg, im not sure why.
Maybe I didn't hear the car being as loud so I drove it harder, giving me less mpg, not sure to be honest.
