Yes this is true. When Jan makes the canned/ custom tune he takes into account the mods that you have on your Mini. The best mod to have pretune would probably be a helix or forge intercooler.

Hey Jan!

Now that I have the Helix IC installed do I need an updated tune for the IC or did the last one you send me already have it included?

Thanks Jan!

use the reset option on the tool, it will then be as if you just took the tool out of the box.

When Jan did my tune last March, I told him I was putting on the Helix FMIC and asked if it would require a re-tune after install. At that time, he said no. Has something changed since then?

Does the reset just allow you to re-read your ECU? or can it be used to unlock the remote tuner and use it on a different car?

I think you are right, no additional tune is needed. I also told him I would be installing the IC. I missed your post when you asked him that question but it would make sense if we both told him we were adding the IC that he would include it in the tune. I bet when we hear from Jan he will tell us it is already been taken into account.

Yup, Jan also told me no re-tune is needed for adding an IC, as he already tuned the car for it

I think as long as the other car is a mini cooper you can use it on another car since after the reset you have to go through all the initial setup of meshing it with the car again. I know that each model car has a different coding in the tool that would have to be changed to use it on a different model car. I have 2 tools and both have different coding, one for my MINI and the other for my M3.

Sounds like the tune is going pretty well. Congrats to you all. I have a GIAC tune that I like, but would love the option to set it to stock if I had to. So Jan, when does this software hit the iPhone with a cable? That would be awesome, tune via phone wirelessly. Also, can one flash tool tune multiple cars with the same software, or does additional software need to be purchased for each car?

The flash tool only works on one car. When you initially hook it up to your MINI it reads the VIN and stores it, essentially marrying the tool to that VIN. I believe the tool would need to sent back to Dimsport to have it reset (for a fee) so it could be used on another compatible vehicle.

So on a factory jcw will this tune make a noticeable difference? Can anyone chime in that has this tune on their jcw?
And somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand the stock intake yields the best results from this tune compared to other intakes (other than possibly the DoS intake)?

YO Jan, or anybody that knows: This week I'll be switching from the m7 Super AGS to the DoS CAI. The surface area of the two K&N filters is pretty close, but the DoS will be inhaling ambient air and not the blast furnace air of the engine bay. Is this going to require a re-tune?

PS: I made the CAI change 'cause I wanna give my new Helix FMIC a bigger running start than it already has, LOL!

No. I think you'll be fine

Although the MAF is pretty sensitive to intake changes. I know my car was tuned with my DDM intake, and I recently switched back to the stock one for a few days and the car did NOT like it. Ran like crap...switched back to the DDM and all was well.

It's not so much the ambient air temps that the MAF is sensitive to...its the amount of air and the nature of its flow as it passes over the sensor. The difference in ambient air temps between different intakes is not as big as you'd think, at least if you had your hoodscoop grill removed and were moving. I actually see lower temps from my open DDM than I did with my stock one. You'll prob see an improvement with the DoS though, given where it sucks-in from.

ok so before i go ahead and order my stuff....i just wanna make sure about something..

the tool does NOT come with ANY tune whatsoever correct? and if i pay $500 i get a canned tune which then i can put on my car with the tool?

OR

does the tool come with a canned tune, and the $500 tune is the custom tune?

The tool does not come with any tune. $500 is for the canned/custom tune which you then transfer to your Mini via the tool.

Thanks Thumper! Hey, how's that Helix FMIC doing in that Valley of the Sun heat? Was going to test mine in the Mojave, but chickened out, LOL.
