I used the 1 1/4" expansion plug too, and I wonder if a smaller size wouldn't be easier... I had to modify it quite a bit to get it to fit. I wonder if the next size smaller would make it easier. Then you could just tighten it down to get it to expand and fit. Just a thought. Mine took awhile to get to fit. Didn't put sealant on it...hopefully it stays.

I bought the two suggested sizes. I used the smaller plug, but the metal washer from the bigger plug. This made placement easy, but physically impossible for the plug to be sucked into the boost tube. I wouldn't have felt comfortable if I'd used the smaller plug washer as I'd be concerned it could be sucked into the engine later on.

I didn't want to over-tighten and crack the plastic Y tube. It's possible that if I didn't tighten it adequately it could be pushed into the noisemaker tube and simply act as a loose plug. Even then it'll be doing a better than OEM job. I will check down the road.

2012 MCS OEM without noisemaker

So I was driving a 2012 MCS dealer loaner and it was unusually quiet. So I popped the hood and it was noisemaker-less

The previously posted photos of the OEM noisemaker-less mini did not work.
Here are 10 photos and a 39 second video.

Update:
I would not recommend the plastic oem replacement. Mine popped off last Tuesday (09/07/2015) while I was highway driving and sounded like a gunshot under the hood. The end that attaches to the throttle body is the bad end. The rubber gasket and the ribs that keep the gasket clamp from sliding off are damaged.

Mini had this part. 13719806688-03
At $85 it is much cheaper than the NM Eng replacement tube but a lot more than sticking a plug in the tube. From what I read above the plug solution is working but I wanted a manufactured part.

I am having trouble understanding the cowl space. Does water get in there when it rains? It that where the A/C gets air?

Noise maker? A P.O.J (piece of junk) to be sure. The sad truth is that Minis would profit from being quieter inside. I understand the factory added more sound deadener as part of the "freshening" they did in 2011.

Definitely a PPOJ, fake engine noise. Even after removing the noisemaker it seems like the loaner was quieter. Could be the amount of sound deaden-er, it was an auto, tire size, tire brand, and door seal wear and tear. I think it slightly tweaked the sound a little in the area of 3000 rpm. Seems a little less in your face. Still get the sound of the engine revving and exhaust which I like a lot. If I wanted a boring and super quiet driving experience I would have got another Cadillac.

Far-Out! I'm new to the Mini World (09' S R56) coming from the Audi World...
Just read all the posts about this and will do today or tomorrow! Sounds like a Sunday project.. Thanks Fellas! And Gals if there is a Female tuner in the Mini World..
Nothing like a Female Tuner... My ex helped in installing my DP on the TT!..

I was looking at the noisemaker delete kit from WMW http://www.waymotorworks.com/noise-m...5-r56-r57.html

it says that it's for 2007-2010... does the 2011 not have this noisemaker or is it just this part won't work for it? is there another part somewhere that does work?

I have been told that the 2011 is not supposed to have a noisemaker. MINI probably had an ample supply of noisemakers so they installed them on the 2011s until the supply was exhausted. I bet the WMW kit will work. Other options are homedepot, replace the hose with a MINI part, or replace the hose with aftermarket part.

I am keeping my noisemaker. It doesn't affect performance and I like the noise it makes.

Heck, people put cold air inlets on their cars all the time and all they do is make noise, with no added performance.

Interesting. I wonder how many other people have had that issue? I haven't read about it anywhere else. I wonder if you have somehting else going on. Was that area worked on recently?

In March about 9000 miles ago the evap drain was cleaned and heater core replaced by the dealership. After that I have done oil change, air filter, cabin air filter, front and rear brake pads. The Manic stage 1 tune has been on since November 2014.
3 weeks ago I drove from Dallas to Los Angeles. A few days ago I was motoring on 118 heading west and heavy on the throttle above highway speeds the hose came off. It was 107 outside and I was on an uphill section of the road. I believe my driving style is very stressful to my car so... just sharing my experience.

The codes:
Fault: :Mass or Volume Air Flow “A” Circuit Range/Performance – Air Flow Too High- Code: P00BD
Fault: :Interface EWS-DME: Hardware error- Code: 0032E3
Fault: :Lambda probe after catalytic, electrical open circuit lines / Air Mass- Code: 002D22
Fault: :Engine cut off time / Cyclical monitoring Fehlerabspeicherung / unknown failure / Air mass plausibility: air mass too high / Misfiring in shifts- Code: 002774

Here are a couple of pictures of the failed hose. It just not as robust as the original hose with the noise maker. It just simply slipped off. Either it was damaged by the tech working on my car or it failed. I used the clamp on the new hose that is why it isn't in the picture. The left picture has the rubber gasket inserted into the plastic hose.

After replacing the hose the CEL turned off by itself. Did some data logging and everything seems normal.

Yea, first I have heard. Looks i little mangled on the plastic side from install or over-tightened the worm clamp from the tech is my guess.

i have the forge cold side hose kit, has any one tried to just put a pvc pipe in place of the y pipe? the forge hose comes with a metal piece that that attaches to the oem y pipe connector. so i think i can just get rid of the metal piece and plastic y pipe piece and be done with it.

my noise maker is actually broken, it bleeds boost and makes a farting noise every time i shut my car off. i think i will be the first to try it if no one has.

Are you sure its your noise maker making that noise? If you could describe the noise as a kazoo noise it may be your pressure converter.

Check this thread HERE.

Hopefully that helps identify the main issue at hand.

yes it does sound like a kazoo. thank for the info on that. i guess i will be getting one of those.

since that is the real problem, the noise maker has to come out to do it so its the perfect time to delete it.

When you take it out you can install either of these:

NM Engineering kit that I have
http://www.waymotorworks.com/nm-air-charge-pipe.html

or

The WMW new delete kit:

yeah i just ordered the WMW delete. didnt want to spend that much, but its on the boost side and i just dont want to worry about boost hoses slipping off the pvc pipe i would have put in.
