Drivetrain RMW REMOTE TUNING FOR R56 testing next week
You'll probably be better off with a custom tune for the upgraded turbo.
so when you say custom tune, i just go to my local tuner where I'm getting the turbo put in, and say "i want a custom tune" and they will do it with the stock ecu or are there other parts i need?

I know you're new, but spend some time reading through tuning threads and such. There are a couple canned tunes available...but to get the most and whats best suited for your car, you NEED a custom dyno tune...especially with a turbo different than stock.
They won't have a clue how to tune it

Are these canned tunes available similar to the "reflash" of the ECU that i did on my old Acura RSX Type S? like the GIAC MINI ECU Flash for the R56 Mini Cooper S by Helix Minisports?
The place i have that is going to do my turbo upgrade also specializes in tuning vehicles...they have a dyno in house and do all the work there...

Having said that, I didn't even realize anyone had canned tunes out for the R56.
As far as your place, unless they are using a canned tune, I doubt they have the ability to tune an R56. It took 4 model years for anyone to finally come out with a tune because it was so hard to crack the ECM.
There is another alternative... the dealer. You can buy a Stage I JCW kit which gives you 189 HP (I forget the torque, similiar in numbers I believe... 193'ish). It consists of a remap of the ECM (which is ordered by VIN only), a JCW CAI and an exhaust.
It doesn't give you the same results as a tune from alternative sources but it's a DEFINITE improvement, guaranteed to work and warrantied by the dealer.

given that my funds and time are going to other things as we wait and the potential gains in my MC are minimal, I might try a canned tune, such as the Upsolute tune. A place in NJ will flash it for $500 with 30 day money back guarantee. It'll just be so painful to have to reflash whenever the dealer resets the ECU, though.
hahaha I like your thinking... I want an STi for my winter car to drive to snowboard. But I love my Mini, can never get rid of it

If you're going to spend that kind of money, why not get a dyno tune?

Dude, there's no point in being impatient. I feel your frustration. I waiting almost a year before a tune or anything was out for the R56 and finally I said screw it, I went and bought the Stage I kit.
Can't you find a tuning party near your area?
I realize you want it but I assure you Jan wants to sell the handhelds as bad as people want to buy them.
Hope your wait isn't too much longer....

Its not that Im truely impatient, I mostly just post up those little smileys as a fast way of bumping the thread up to the top lol.
I have looked into a tuning party around here (since MINI here is very cool and mod friendly), but the problem is, there are only 2 of us that want to get a tune. The MINI scene here unfortunately is extremely small. I dont want to gloat in any way, but I guess I have the most "modded" MINI here, and even then I havent nearly finished what I want. The other MINI that is extremely modded is an R53 but already has the tune from a while back.
I have no problem waiting, as I have a few things I want to buy before the tune anyways (hard boost tubes, better intake, etc), just wanna make sure the thread doesnt randomly get lost in the abyss

You're a far better man than I. I was too impatient.... obviously so because I went and bought the stage I when I couldn't take it any longer.
I think it's ridiculous that the car has been out for 4 model years and the aftermarket tuners are JUST getting into the scene.
Nonetheless, they're out now and hopefully you'll get your hands on a remote tuner and get it taken care of.
Good luck.

^^ Exactly! Its funny you mention that. Regardless of my intake and turboback, I thought about going to buying the stage 1 kit simply for the tune and then keeping the JCW stuff incase I ever needed warranty work that they denied.
I still get impatient, but instead of saving my money for the remote tuner, I end up buying everything else that I DONT need for my car.
funny how that works. And I thought I was going to be spending all this money on my R1. So much for that idea

Yes, as Mark said, he saves everyone's stock file anytime he does a tune.
