So what's the deal with the Orlando tune? I'm scheduled for Sunday but I haven't seen a time schedule, directions, nothing....

Usually there is a thread with all pertinent information but I don't even know where the tuning shop is.

Is there a thread with this information?

I offered the owner of the shop for me to make a thread and a list of who's coming and some sort of schedule but he said he'd take care of it.

I'm driving 8 hours to be there and don't have any more info than I did a month ago.

Anyone?

WHAT??? Exactly what could he have done so bad they would boot him? That's ridiculous.

Doesn't matter, he saw my post and texted me.

Thanks Chad,

Nahhhh, no new stuff. When I got my tune, it was one of the first few that Jan did for the JCW's and he was still playing with different settings for it.

At that time, he felt that he could get more out of it but we were running out of time and we had already spent 2 hours on the dyno because of the boost tubes.... (tubes kept blowing off)

He's going to see if he can tweak it a bit to his satisfaction.

Yup, sure do.... Dan is a friend of mine. I'm still going to go to Orlando, it'll give me a reason to drive to Tampa and visit my mother (even though I just saw her over Thanksgiving)

I use any excuse to get behind the wheel of my mini just to drive.

I drove to Kentucky for my original tune (7-8 hour drive)

I drove to Orlando for my Exhaust Depot exhaust (7-8 hour drive)

And now I'll go back to Orlando to redo the tune.

I guess that's why in roughly 5 months, I've got over 15K miles on my mini. (still doesn't include the 25-30K miles I put on my H2 every year)

I like to drive.... (the mini especially)

Oh well, all the more reason for you guys to get the handheld tuner if you're going to tune.

Hello!

Exactly why I will not touch this until I can flash back to stock anytime I need to.

BMW/MINI sucks with respect to this, if they didn't want mods they should have put no extra margin in then if you get caught adding more margin then your busted. But if the margin is there then the parts can handle it otherwise why would the margin be there. I know its hard to draw the line but they don't give any slack, they nail you the first chance they get. Maybe if the dollar wasn't so weak anf their margins weren't sooooo thin thngs might be different. Anyway they are a poor excuse for a performance manufacturer. BMW should be called the "ultimate whining machine" and the MINI should not be called a "Bull Dog" considering how they pussyfoot around the cars on the service/warranty end.

All right I'm done! :-)

I know they have been having fuel pump problems in the 135/335 cars and tore his ecu apart the same way.... didn't find a thing

just sounds fishy to me
I wouldn't consider the software needed to compare files very difficult at all... MINI has a record of ALL official ECU builds they have released. It's very easy to compare the build currently on the ECU to all builds that have been released. If the SW doesn't find a match it's quite obvious someone has hacked the ECU.

When it comes to warranty repairs and saving $$$ on the bottom line, one has to assume the ECU engineers provide this type of software to the field engineers as a CHEAP and simple tool to determine when someone has meddled with the ECU.

Also... if the problem is something new or rare, it often times will get passed back to the design engineers for evaluation as the field engineers don't have the knowledge and skill set to find the root of the problem. If it gets to that point you don't stand a chance.

Jan,

I still have yet to see any pertinent information on your end about the remote tuners recently. It seems you want to purposely keep this information from us/me? lol.

Not trying to sound like a jerk at all, but a lot of us have been waiting and without any updates, Im now a bit skeptical about a purchase on this item any time in the near future.

That, and you havent replied to my PM and its been nearly 3 weeks.....

I've said before when I find out when they are shipping I will let everyone know......

this isn't the first time a vendor has been told by a Manufacturer that something would ship on a given date... sure won't be the last

I'm just as frustrated as everyone here

I hope this remote tuner gives us the ability to flash back to stock and then back to the tune otherwise I'm out.

They do. Jan was explaining earlier in the previous posts that once you have your tune flashed via the remote tool, you can then also flash back to stock if necessary (like when taking it to the dealer), and then flashing back to your tune after you are finished. If I remember correctly you will be able to upload them via a PC (or maybe that was to store the files?).

Either way! Im excited...just giving my semi-weekly bump

I just hope this new flash tool is compatible with what Jan was using this past summer when he backed up our stock mappings. I'd really like to take my Mini in for some unrelated warranty work, but don't dare until I can flash back to stock

^^ Ditto!

While were waiting for the official release. Im curious. What are some stock boost levels that I should be seeing with the bolt ons I have? It seems I only hit 10-11 max on my MCS. I hit a consistent 13psi one day...and never saw it again. I saved it in my PEAK for my gauge just to wish upon a star lol

This is correct. If I remember correctly, the flash tool stores up to three maps and uploaded through the PC using a third party program that is free.

So for clarification - the ability to flash back to stock with the tool does not preserve your warranty. If something goes wrong and you take the vehicle in, the dealership will have the ability to tell the comp has been tampered with. From reading some of the other post by members here, that seems to be the case.

I havent heard of this before. I know they can see the current software version on the machine, but it doesnt seem like that would necessarily apply. Again, Im sure it still solely depends on which MINI dealer you go to.

I hope I'm not talking out of turn but I asked Jan about the handheld unit and he said they're done and he's seen them done but the company is dragging their feet getting them to him.

The manufacturer keeps promising the units to Jan and in turn, he tells us they are coming soon.

Unfortunately, the dates keep getting pushed back to him and he in turn does the same.

Like I said, I don't mean to speak for Jan but I'm sure he wants to sell the units to us as bad as we want to buy them.
