RMW tuned after AMVIV 09 (Part II)

Ok,

I got ahold of two more dyno sheets from our after AMVIV tune this year. Since the other thread is so clustered here's a new one so you guys don't have to wade through the other one.

17%
CAI
380's
Jan Tuned

Start- 183.1hp and 164.6trq
End- 205.9hp and 184.3trq!

Billy's car mods:

15%
CAI
Jan Tuned

Nice numbers! Quick questions, on Sterlings car I assume the only mod was the tune? And on Billy's car I assume the baseline was the car stock?

Just trying to better understand the deltas.

Sterlings mods are:
Borla Street Catback
17%
CAI
380's
Jan Tuned

The numbers you see for Billy's car are actually what they were with the mods I listed minus the header. Thats how his car was running when he brought it to Jan! After Jan had it on the dyno it was quite apparent to him that something was wrong. He diagnosed it as being either a plugged precat or cat. So Billy said throw your header on then! Obviously the header made the difference!

Just ask Billy how his ride home was! Totally different car, funny thing is that he thought it was normal before

Congratulation Sterlings and Billy's. I think Billy's the happiest one. Jan again making his magic

So this might be a tangent, but I'm trying to learn: I'm skimming through Bentley's Diagnosis Without Guesswork handbook and came across all of the info on cats, pre-cat sensors, post-cat sensors, etc... It seems that if the cat were "plugged," there'd be a code. Was there one? I count 16 codes associated with the cat's function. How does one become "plugged?" I read a few years ago that track people were overheating their cats and ruining them, but this would lead to codes.

So how do I know if my cat is plugged besides a custom tuning session? Can you really drive around with a plugged cat, drastically less power than you're supposed to have, and not have a check engine light?

If this is not the right place for this question - can the mods move it?

Hey mb,

I was getting my RMW exhaust put on at Jan's shop so I wasn't at the dyno when Billy's car was on the first time.

His car did throw a code while on the dyno (Cat efficiency code I believe) Thats when Jan put two and two together. Cat code plus the low hp after the initial pull. I agree with you that its weird the car didn't throw a code before the Dyno. He's had the car for a year and nothing

Cool - thanks.

This diagnosis handbook is pretty cool, even for a mechanical idiot like myself. It makes me want to get my car on a dyno if for no other reason than to have someone who knows what the hell they're doing take a look at the operation of the engine instead of relying on all of these fault codes that may or may not trigger if there's a problem.

I continue to be impressed the trq curve for the Jan tuned cars. I don't mind more HP but the higher flatter trq is what makes driving fun.
Wish I lived closer to Cal.

I could only imagine how happy Billy must've been on the ride home.

As for Sterling, I meant if the Jan Tune was the only variable between the baseline and the post-tune.

Oh sorry I misunderstood you. Yes, the tune was the only difference. No parts added.

And Billy's still craping himself every time he drives!

If you have a boost gauge you would probably notice higher than usual boost accompanied by a loss in performance.

wow, you have to hit like 19 or 20 psi for it to set the overboost code, right ?
