We all know the cost of the g28 turbo is around 2k plus all the special mods that have to be performed.

Whats the cost of this hybrid turbo.I'd rather have a simpler bolt on

Oh, Is it necessary to have the ECU reflashed? Can you just leave it alone or would you not get full capacities of this hybrid turbo without it?

The costs I've heard to get a hybrid turbo made is way way cheaper than going the big turbo route...a few hundred dollars I've heard.

And yes, you're going to want to get a tune if you do anything to the turbo. It will maximize the performance and driveability. Sure it will probably run on low boost without an ECU tune, but I wouldn't do it. Might as well get all you can if you're going to spend the money.

Since you also live in AZ. Where would one get this mod done? Also, why is nobody stating the costs of this hybrid?

No idea if there is any shop here that does, haven't really looked though. It might have to just be sent out to someone that does it.

The hybrid that was done here in this thread is in the UK. Pricing in the US is going to be different I'm sure.

Blouch Turbo is very well known in other car communities for doing quality rebuilds and hybrids... www.blouchturbo.com. If you're really interested I'm sure you can contact them and see what they'll do for ya. Theres a couple cool videos on there which show the whole process...

What ever happened to the yankees' progress on this? In other words, progress with this in the U.S.A. I know dtsoccer was absolutely gung-ho about doing this. This seems to be one of the biggest potential breakthroughs for the R56 that have ever been conceived and there hasn't been a peep

You are correct sir. However, both Turbo companies have not called me back or repsonded in months. After awhile I stopped trying...maybe it's not done yet...but I've heard that over and over again.

Who knows...you can bet on me getting one though when it does drop.

Amen!! I'm dying to get started on this but have hit a road block in finding a "donor" turbo. My car is my DD so I need a spare turbo before I can test anything. If you guys can point me in the right direction it won't take long to get results.

I am surprised that no vendors are putting up the initial cost to get a spare turbo and do this. There seems to be a high demand for something like this because of warranty and space limitations. If someone put in the initial effort, I am willing to bet that they would get a hefty return on it.

Umsports, try car-part.com, ebay, and local junk yards. Also maybe try pming some of the guys who have replaced their stock turbos with the gt28 kit from atp.

dtsoccer,

Is one of those companies Blouch Turbo? You mean they aren't responding to you when you're clearly willing to fork over cash?

I think the biggest obstacle for all is sending your OEM turbo out, and playing the waiting game until its done. For us with our R56s as our daily driver, this sucks ***. We'll have to use our significant other's vehicle to make up for it. On the other hand, people are saying they'll buy another OEM turbo and use that, but heck for not that much more cash you can get a GT28RS kit... arghhhhhhhh!

Yes one is Blouch and they told me they had something in the works and then didin't return my calls or emails to them. Another company, G-Pop Shop in AZ said they had a prototype in testing and it would be done in a few weeks. That was months ago....

With a proper tune like Jan's, a upgraded stock turbo isway more cost effective and to the dealer its not a warranty voider because they cant see it. I would easily fork over 400 to 600 for this upgrade granted in brings in high end power.

We shall see I guess, I been waiting months...

What's holding them up then? Is it the fact they don't have your turbo in hand and ready to modify? They don't have the proper parts? Did they refer you to a dedicated person that you could go back to and ask about the status of the project instead of just getting the secretary?

As a businessman it just seems unprofessional that they won't follow up with a paying customer. Did you say that you're willing to make a deposit or anything that hints you aren't fooling around?

I'm thinking about calling Michigan Turbo with the same inquiries, but I won't get far since I'm only asking for quotes and not buying any products/services immediately.

Does anyone know what ever happened to the OP? I understand he sold the car, but why? Did his motor blow up or something? I can't imagine why after that new found power. It really sucks that he just left us hanging.

Would a JCW turbo for $1550 shippped be of interest to anyone? It would be from Borg Warner and is a direct bolt-on. This way you could easily put the stock 'S' turbo back on if it had to be taken in.

Put it on the marketplace and list specs.

I'm just exploring interest. I can get these at anytime and was curious if that would suffice for the guys looking to go the hybrid route. Considering the lack of factory turbos to buy and play with this would be an option for those who wish to easily retain the factory warranty. Instead of gutting the factory turbo you could keep it in the closet and throw it on if you needed to go to the dealership. Direct bolt-on replacement.

I am however expecting to have the specs on this tomorrow because I wouldn't buy it either unless I was sure it had larger wheels and or a larger backside.

I would be interested in a jcw turbo... Wonder if a jcw gone hybrid will make better power or potential over a stock turbo... I remember reading somewhere that the jcw had a bigger openings compared to the stock turbo...
