Mike called Jan out on here with unclear undefined rules. He didn't expect this? He also had the ***** to tell the community not to get involved??? Why not send a PM?

Again.... mike should have been a bit more de-script with his challenge. For me, Mike is a newcomer to the game. If he is or isn't.... he is for me. Will I defend Jan? Sure, he's my friend and I believe in the parts he's making for the Mini. Would I defend Mike if he was a new vendor being bashed for no reason? You bet.
This was a pretty "open" challenge from him the way I see it

Anyway, guess I'll see how this progress or de-gresses tomorrow. Ima go snuggle with the wife See you dudes and dudettes tomorrow
Yep, i'm a new comer to NAM and i made a noobish mistake. I assumed too much and gave people too much credit. We've been in many Time Attack series and when i said i will accommodate the class of car for competition, i assume you guys would know the difference between the various classifications (Street, Modified, and Unlimited)... Obviously, I was wrong. I assume that after seeing some many MINI's in the road race circuit, people would be familiar with the rules.

We will bring a MINI that qualifies for the STREET Class and we'll battle it out on the tracks. If your Standalone ecu doesn't pass Redline Tech, then that's your problem.

Jan has chosen the "Street Class" of competition... here are the rules governing the Redline Time Attack "Street Class:"
http://www.redlinetimeattack.com/street_rules.htm

According to the rules, one "Major Engine" upgrade is allowed. So with the 2.0L upgrade, you may NOT be allowed the use of an aftermarket ECU. It is Jan's responsibility to check to see if the standalone ecu is allowed. If not, then you guys will have to run the stock ECU We'll let Redline make this decision.

With that said, Mynes/ABF will bring a car to the Redline Time Attack at Willow Springs that qualifies for the "Street Class" and take on this challenge. Enough Said!!!
Talk about taking posts out of context. Too bad this isn't like other forums where you can't edit a post after 30 minutes. Why don't you just go back and edit every post.....

Too bad Mike can't step up to the challenge he laid down in the first post........"Bring your fastest MINI"

to find out who's the best tuner, you need to be tuning the same ECU.

OK. So I don't have any products from RMW or Mynes so I'm neutral. I'm not a fan boy of either side, so hopefully my opinions are not biased. But from what I'm seeing so far... The Mynes guys are challenging RMW to bring their "fastest SC street car" while saying their able to "scale the 750 CC injectors" and are able to "tune a stock MINI ecu." Why is it that big of a deal if RMW uses a stock ECU or standalone. I thought this isn't a war about Tuning capability, if RMW can tune a stock ECU or not. It's about bringing in a working, efficient running Turbo MINI against a working, efficient running SC MINI. If the standalone works better for RMW and a tuned stock ECU works better for Mynes, then I think it should be left at that and see what happens on the track. From what I'm reading in the last 5 to 6 pages...Mynes are you saying that if RMW brings their 2.0L with a standalone instead of a stock ECU all of a sudden you'd have to "bend over"? I'm also reading comments of how 95% or more of MINI owners do not have a 2.0L, RMW standalone...etc. BUT this is a track challenge to see what makes a better MINI with all the bells and whistles whether it be a SC or TURBO right? Besides there is still the other 5 or less % of MINI owners that prob. would like to know the results. (Wasn't there a guy who wanted to drop 15K on a MINI to make it faster on NAM?) As spectators, it would be nice to know what a fully suped up SC MINI is capable as well as a fully suped up Turbo MINI is capable of.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm glad to see that both of the side can conduct themselves like businessmen... I give credit to Mynes for at least acting mature and not baiting the other side incessantly, but then I have to fault them for not coming in with at least the groundwork for a set of rules.

I'm SCCA g-stock for the foreseeable future, so I should probably just be ignoring this... and yet here I am.

I think both of you should go to the same dyno after the race as well.

Also there should be a individual tally off what was spent on engine / g.box / suspension / tires / brakes. One car might be $45k conversion, the other one may be $25k

Of course the last test should be that you pay for my flight to Cali so I can drive both cars at Pomonoa dragstrip

Look forward to the results

Wow this got out of hand pretty quick...! To remind everyone of the challenge:

Fastest Supercharged MINI vs Fastest Turbocharged MINI

Jan has claimed many times (rightly or wrongly) that a S/C MINI will always beat a T/C MINI at the track. Now we have the opportunity to find out.

With regards to the mod list, well IMO it should reflect what the customer could buy from any vendor regardless of budget. IMO the only standard should be a full interior to keep car weights similar but allowing:

Removal of rear seats and seat belts
Installation of racing seats/harnesses
Battery relocation

Engine - there should no restrictions with each tuner allowed to add or take out anything they think that will help create the fastest track MINI.

Suspension/brakes - Any product set-up allowed to reflect what a customer can buy for their street/track car

Gearbox - Stock GB but any diff, clutch, flywheel or shortshift is allowed

Tires - Same size and spec for both cars

Wheels - Same size and spec for both cars

Track - Same track, same day, 30 laps max with which to post best lap time

Performance measurement - Racelogic vBox or similar used on both cars

Customers mod their cars in various ways, some remove air con some don't, some go T/C some stay S/C but this is tuner vs tuner showcasing what they can achieve on the MINI so therefore lets not restrict them, we aren't restricted, so why should they be.

Now lets GET IT ON!!

FUN!!!!!!!!!

As an entertained reader of this thread, I formally request that nobody click on the "Rules" link for "Street Class" cars in the Redline event link above so that you can continue to argue over pointless details that Redline has already decided. It's fun to watch people create the rules for the competition that are already created. So please, do not click that enticing little link.

If the parties want to agree to be in a different class, then guess what, there are rules for those, too!

Either way, this is FUN! If I lived in Cali, I'd be there.

cost of a plane ticket is cheap now
after reading that, it says built engines ARE NOT an upgrade
bigger turbos than factory as long as it came with a turbo is NOT an upgrade.....(my guess is a supercharger gets the same exemption)

still trying to figure how mine won't be a street car

Paul,

you have a better chance of winning the lottery 5 times in a row than having a chance to drive my car

Anyone figure out the odds on that?

maybe you should... then you can explain to Mynes it ONLY takes 231whp to run 13.1 and not 350whp
