RMW Cam Confusion. Jan?

Jan, So much has come up about the RMW cam lately. Like "frenchyjohnmini", I'm a bit confused, ... I think.
What are the facts here? I think it's now understood that the RMW cam is just an off the shelf Newman Cam, correct? That there was never any input from RMW in the design of the RMW cam that you have been selling to date, correct? Even though you stated back when you first introduced this cam that the first ten you were grinding. Is this just a misinterpretation of the definition of "grinding". Did you actually mean "ordering" or did you in fact have these cams ground just for you?
When a vendor posted that his cam and the RMW cam were one in the same, you told him he was wrong. So, at that time had you already been selling custom grinds to all of your customers? Sounds like you were denying that your cam was at any time ever like the other vendors. True? Seems so as you reiterated that your cams were "made for you".
What got strange was you seemed to continue to confirm that indeed the RMW cam was not the same Newman cam that was available to anyone as off the shelf inventory from Newman, or any Newman distributors. Then, a bit later you stated that that, "we haven't released it for the public yet. These cams have been on specialty projects and race cars. Real race cars" Did you believe that all this time people were just asking about your specialty real race car cams?

OK, so, the RMW cams you have been selling to date are in fact off the shelf Newman Cams (with the exception of a few custom "race cars"), correct? No? Please feel fee to set me straight on this if you would. Thanks

Dude, take it down a few notches.
I am an RMW customer, among other products I have an RMW camshaft. It performs as advertised and was a fair price! That's what matters!

I hope not in a PM because many of us want to hear the answer.

Not a PM.
Sorry if it came out looking that way. Just an honest question.
Mini_racer, this really has nothing to do with performance, as Newman seems to make good cams. Not so sure you'll feel the price was that right though.

I have an RMW cam on order...this is the first time I've heard about the Newman cams, even though a few days ago I found a thread about a 1320 cam. If the RMW cam is a stock Newman item, what is the stock number so I can compare prices?

thanks,

Well I immediately surfed over to Newman-Cams.com to check out this "off-the-shelf" MINI cam and there is nothing listed. Maybe I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if I can save a couple bucks.

Click "Catalogue"
Select "BMW"
Go to the end of Page 2
There are two "non-supercharged" grinds, and one "supercharged" grind.

thanks,
A friend of mine in the States bought one from the UK and with the current exchange rate came in well under $300 including shipping.
I posted this several days ago but it got deleted, because some people on this site do not like the TRUTH

Well, as far as I know RMW should be up on Newman's retailer list soon, so it's not like it's secret information. I see no reason why your post should be pulled now.
I do though want to give Jan a chance to give us the facts before those price comparisons over shadow the thread. That can come up later maybe?

VAT is just for the "locals" across the pond.

That kind of stuff happens when moderators are biased... not much we can do about it.

Yup we have to pay VAT 17.5% now reduced to 15% to help the people of the Great Britain start spending money they haven't got

But you lucky people off the USA dont pay our VAT because you are exempt but you might get stung for what ever local taxes you pay or import duty.

The Cooper cam they list we tried in our Cooper test car but unfortunatley it didn't see much of a gain. We were going to try the S cam in just to see if that did anything.

Now Thomas is back with us we will be able to get some more grinds done and installed in our Cooper to see if we can gain anything.

I believe that there are some flying out Friday to there new homes on the east and west coast

Newman decided to do a cam for the MINI but did nothing promotion wise. Paul from 1320 asked he could test it as at the time the shrek cam (as I call it) was the most popular.

After testing of the Newman, 1320 decided to promote it and although they never claimed it was theirs it became known as the 1320CAM and became popular. After proving itself in testing, it was put in my car and being one of the first RMW Jesus head cars in the UK, Jan (and everybody else) saw the results and the newman cam suddenly started shifting units. The beauty of the Newman over the shrek is the fact that it fits perfectly with no tube smacking issues and gives plenty of low down grunt compared to the shrek.

It's known as both the Newman and 1320 cam in the UK and I know Paul has sent these all over the world. Cost wise, see for yourself:

It's just a camshaft gents.

I'm very happy with the $225 USD I spent for my afternarket cam.

Anybody tried one of the CATCAMS?

Jeremy, yes, just a cam. But the point here is something else. Fact is what you paid for your and what others have had to pay for theirs, possibly thinking that it was actually an RMW engineered cam, not just another "off the shelf" one.
Hey, thanks for that link! Bookmarked it!

I'm a big fan of capitalism Greg.

That said, one doing 'due diligence' is a must for all purchases!

Hey Paul...can you do better than £85 on a GTT oil catch can?

I know it's off topic, but I don't think onasled will mind.
