Any way to make R56 exhaust sound like R53?

Hey,

I love my new R56 mini but the one thing I do miss about my old R53 S is the exhaust note. I have an aftermarket exhaust on my new R56 but it doesnt sound anything like as good as an aftermarket exhaust / header combo on the old shape mini:

and

Compared to my new one which sounds like:

Just wondering if its possible to get a noise anything like this on the new shape? Probably isnt... but I'd pay a lot of money if it was in anyway possible (without an engine transfer lol)

Thanks!

Nope, it will never sound as good as the R53.

A large part of this is due to the turbo. Since the turbo sits in the begining of the exhaust tract it affects the sound of the exhaust, acts as a muffler of sorts. Turbo cars usually are quieter than N/A or supercharged cars, and generally speaking they don't have that full sounding roar that an n/a car will have.

I miss the sound of my R53 as well ...oh well, hopefully I'll be getting something soon that makes the R56 sound a lil more exciting!

You could always pull off the turbo, and install a supercharger... .
Just playin...

^their burble is caused due to the equal length headers and the boxer style engine....

yeah, you will never get the whine or the same exhaust note. That said, i totally wish our exhaust barked like the r53s.

Sometimes i can get mine to do that but its not like the R53s.

Mine's a Euro spec one so it has got the exhaust burble, but even that is nothing like the R53. Its much quieter and usually only consists of one slight 'pop' whereas my R53 used to do it all the time not only when I changed gear!
DOes anyone know if taking out the 1st cat (in Euro spec cars this can be done easily) would make it sound any better or would it not make much difference?

In EU spec cars there is no cat under the car as a US spec cars. All the cats are in the down pipe (as I'm aware, could be wrong!). I think you mean removing the resonator from the exhaust? which is located under the car. If so I have no idea what effect that has on the sound of the engine.

there is a video of the stock exhaust minus the resonator. i think its from spain and it sounded very raspy and did burble.

like i said before, mine is a USDM model and after my catback, i can sometimes hear a burble.

Luckily, there is a company that do a modification on the downpipe to remove 1 of the 2 cats held within it. Apparently this can release upto 20bhp extra and after a run the turbo is significantly cooler. I am also thinking it might increase noise a little?

You mean the GTT Stealth down pipe. Not many have had it done. it sounds a good option though, it both senses of the word!

Yep thats the one See you're from essex - you're a little nearer GTT than me unfortunately :(

I really want this done though

Do you reckon that removing one of the cats is a better mod than replacing the stock downpipe with the milltek one? - which I believe is wider than stock but keeps the cat

first the turbo acts as a silencer,2 cats you say more silence add anything more, you get the picture, the turbo neon came without a muffler stock, the downpipe off the turbo is most important, less restriction = guicker turbo response

I guess you just like the poping sound. The R56 offers a deeper sound w/o a pop. How many top end cars pop and gargle anyways? I guess its a matter of taste.

no cats, no resonators. A slim low baffle muffler...guaranteed gargle and popping.

Ya I dont understand the difference between Euro R56 and American. I happen to be owner of an American R56 in Germany, mine dont backfire and mine dont have a limiter?

What exactly would make the r53 pop?
